Yesterday, we cited a Motoring File report that said BMW had quietly shown workers at its Oxford Plant a production version of the next-generation Mini. The R56 model is already confirmed to be inches longer and wider, yet a Mini rep was quoted as saying the new model would be “even more go-kart like.” Well, according to a new report by MF the 2007 Mini Cooper may be larger, but it will also be lighter. It’s not often that a vehicle loses weight between revisions, which makes this story particularly interesting. Apparently, the weight loss can be attributed to a lighter aluminum engine from BMW. It will be interesting to see how the weight distribution of the vehicle works out with its adjuster dimensions and lighter engine. The design of the production is based on the 2007 Mini Rallye Monte Carlo Concept and 2007 Mini Traveller Concept.
