New niche? Artist envisions Mercedes SCL-Class

08/07/2006, 5:41 PM

By admin

Since Mercedes has recently been providing a lot of answers to questions consumers haven’t asked, the extremely talented André Schaefer of CWW Cardesign decided to do the same thing. Mr. Schaefer put together an illustration of what he calls the SCL 550 — a combination of the CL-Class coupe and S-Class sedan. Now before you cry fowl and point to the Mercedes CLS, keep in mind the CL is much larger and more expensive than the CLS. And this, of course, would be a four-door version of that über coupe. Such a vehicle would undoubtedly combine aspects of the CL- and S-Class to carve out yet another niche. It may seem far fetched, but we are, after all, talking about the company that brought the world the R-Class, CLS-Class, and maybe even an S-Class convertible. Full image after the jump…

“the EXTREMELY TALENTED Andre Shaefer”
I guess if LLN says it it must be true…
right?

There would be no need for this car, there is already an S-class and CLS. To add another car would just eat the sales from either car.

I hope that MKbruin knows how to design a car. Can we see some of your work? Or are just a cheater?

Excellent sleek and elegant car. That’s how the W221 could have looked liked.

Hey Daniel is your real name Andre?
Actually i studied at Art Center Pasadena and I am able to design cars.
Thank goodness teh W221 doesn’t look like it does in the “artists” (and I use that term very loosely) rendering

Hi Mr Mkbruin!

What’s wrong about the car in your oppinion? Design was a request from a british coachbuilder who plans to build such a car for a customer. We are thinking of modifying a W221 with the front end of the CL216. Or we could do it the other way. It depends on some technical things. Let’s see how they decide.

What are you doing over there? I heard about Pasadena, myself studied in Geneva and Munich years ago.

Best,
André

Ok, I rarely post here in the comments, but this time I just can’t resist. What is so interesting about some guy’s weird thoughts of how some car should look that will most likely never be a production car?

I went through that guy’s website and I was like “wtf” all the time. Come on, a Maybach Van?

WHO CARES?

Oh btw, if I learn how to use Photoshop and do some “artist renderings” of cars, can I also get some exposure here?

Hey Andre,

Same crap you post over at AutoWeek’s Combustion Chamber.

Listen, bud, ya know Photoshop…a little.

I have a crew of people pumping that level of digital mods all day and your stuff is merely average.
You come across as a nice person with the ability to chop and afford a website, but you are not a car designer. Post one completely ORIGINAL car design…front 3/4, rear 3/4, side packaging view, plan view and interior renderings and maybe we will stop laughing at your Photoshop “dress-ups”!!!

Munich?

com’on guys, let’s give Andre some credit. he is not claiming to be this ’star’ car designer here. also, while all of you can also ‘try’ to do photoshop renderings after proper training and exercise, at least he put lots of effort puting these together. while i do not agree with many of designs and ideas, I do APPRECIATE his ENTHUSIASM and HARD WORK. all i have to say is just keep up the good work!!! (watch proportion, design language…)

Yo André – how about a ‘SCL’ CC? Or a fastback? Or a Ute?

That would be fun ;)

Genius!

They have the 4-door S-Class, then they do a 2-door S-Class… the CL. And why not do a 4-door CL? Amazing stuff!

Porsche should follow the same thinking and do a soft-top Cayman. They could tell us they’d created a new niche. What a waste of time.

Photoshops suck, by the way.

“Or is it jealousy perhaps? Maybe THIS guy really IS renowned and got his picture on LLN!”

I am successful enough in my “real life” to not be jealous of some guy who he gets exposure on an internet website. Sure it’s nice, and I’d like it as well of course, but it’s not jealousy.
My opinion is that this post is so totally superfluous. This design will never be a production car, it’s just a fantasy of some weird guy with design skills.
I am reading this site to get the latest car news, and this is NOT car news.

So again, if I pick up Photoshop and quickly put some designs together, will I get exposure here as well? (For anyone who doesn’t see it, this is sarcasm.)

you are a no talent ass clown with far too much time on your hands. stop assaulting our eyes with your **** and do something more worthwhile, like working to fight poverty. passing out free meals needs no photoshop skills, and since you have none, it would be a perfect fit.
