This car makes alot of sense for Lexus as a halo car, and would also be the ideal spearhead for Lexus' Performance division - the IS450 has also been spotted testing.

What will be interesting will be whether or not the market will support so much competition in the -just-under-or-around-100k segment...where the 911 Carerra S, AMV8 Vantage, Z06 and base R8 compete...not to mention the upcoming M3, GT-R and now this Lexus, and possibly the NSX as well.

Reminds me if the early 90s when the C4 Corvette, Dodge Stealth R/T/Mitsubishi 3o00GT VR-4, Mazda RX7 Twin Turbo, Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo and the Toyota Supra Twin Turbo were all duking it out in the near 40k segment...awesome cars, all, but they eventually ended up killing each other off (or at least the bottom suddenly fell out of the market and all the buyers suddenly vanished).

Just makes me wonder who will win and who will lose this time. 100k is alot of dough for a car...out of range for alot of enthusiasts who are even willing to go waaaay into debt to own the car of their dreams.

But I like this toyota...seems like the ideal "poor man's" Ferrari 599 Imola to me :)

Joseph: I mention Acura NSX as a sales flop because there was discussion on whether the Lexus would be able to sell a car in this category/price. The NSX was a towering achievement and showcased Honda's racing technology and like you mention, forced Ferrari and the like to improve their cars in terms of drivability, reliability, etc...
However, bar initial introduction the car trickled out of the showroom, even though it was a better car than many of its competitors.
The Lexus may fair better with its V-10, unique high zoot styling and imperious build quality.

Nice looking, but that wing from a 747 has to go. I don't care if it is retractable or not. $100k+ price tag and ricer wings don't go together. If Toyota can't figure out how to design the car for the proper amount of downforce without that wing, they should stay on the porch.

It looks nearly identical to the LF-A concept shown early this year. When I was at the NY auto show, there was hardly anyone even looking at the car. Doesn't bode well for the styling appeal. It may be a hard sell at $100k a copy.

I think people are vastly underestimating the segment in which this car is going to play.

I think the only real competitor this vehicle will have is going to be the next generation NSX, insofar as the LF-H and NSX will be the only real exotic Japanese supercars. I fully suspect that in terms of performance the GT-R will beat the pants off of both of these cars. But the GT-R has never really tried to play in the same league, and it doesn't look like that's going to change anytime soon. Case in point: while Toyota is globally launching this car under their premium brand, Nissan is keeping the GT-R under their regular brand.

There's no doubt in my mind that we're about to see a good number of supercars coming out of Japan that will go toe-to-toe with the best Europe has to offer (except they'll be cheaper, more reliable, better built, and will have way more tuning potential). It's unfortunate that most people will never bother to make that comparison.

I am betting you are gonna see some drivetrain options open up.

-I'm thinking a V10 will come with an engine specific DSG-type transmission
-As a Supra, I'm betting it will use the same underpinnings as this car but be offered with a 3.5 liter from the IS350 or 5.0 V8 from the IS 500. With these engines will come a 6-speed manual that will probably trickle down to the IS and Camry SE V6.

the difference is what lexus designed their cars to do
the ls,gs, and ES were designed to be boring luxury vechiles.
this is designed using their f1 technology.
sure, lexus can lack the super edgy race feel of bmw's or porsche's but the new IS proves that they are at least getting there.

meh, let lexus have the v10 and make it a comfy luxury tourer with balls. give toyota this chassis, a picture of the last supra, and gt3000, for inspiration and a Killer I-6 or V6 with twin turbo. dont let nissan have all the fun in the market with the gt-r

meanpants555.........what does the Acura NSX have to do with this post? It's about 10 years old, and unchanged. It was not a sales flop when it first came out. In fact, that vehicle is what made Ferrari a better vehicle since they basically crapped their pants when it came out. Stay tuned for the next NSX......

The SC430 is NOT a sports car and really never tried to be. It's more in the "comfy cruiser" category. The IS350 is the closest thing they have to a "sports" category and even then, it's still too "Lexus soft" to play with the BMW and G35.

I really hope not, but I think this will also happen to LF-H.......too much "soft".

....but DAMN!!! IT LOOKS PRETTY DAMN SWEET SO FAR!!!

meanpants555………what does the Acura NSX have to do with this post? It’s about 10 years old, and unchanged. It was not a sales flop when it first came out. In fact, that vehicle is what made Ferrari a better vehicle since they basically crapped their pants when it came out. Stay tuned for the next NSX……

The SC430 is NOT a sports car and really never tried to be. It’s more in the “comfy cruiser” category. The IS350 is the closest thing they have to a “sports” category and even then, it’s still too “Lexus soft” to play with the BMW and G35.

I really hope not, but I think this will also happen to LF-H…….too much “soft”.

They said the introduction would coincide with their first Formula One win, but that's far from a predictable thing, so I don't know why they would say that. I'm sure they're hoping that it happens at the Japanese Grand Prix next year at their home track. But who knows.

At any rate, I don't like the front end. It reminds me of the mid-cycle update on the last Celica, where they took an okay design and ruined it. Toyota doesn't have very good taste in style. I'm sure it will be fast, but incomparable to the next NSX and Skyline in terms of sporting performance. Horsepower does not a sports car make.

MM-- I heard it was going to be unveiled at some race that lexus or toyota participates in. I dont keep up with either, so i may be way off, but i think it was a gran prix or f1 race of some kind. But don't quote me on it.

And about the "I doubt they can make it in this field...." Well, if you recall, a lot of people said that about the Audi R8, and then it was unveiled, and now most people love it. I suspect thats how this will go as well.

When will this car actually be unveiled? I've been hearing about it for months, kinda sickens me to see that we barely know anything for sure.

I doubt Lexus can play in this field. Most Lexus havent been high on the fun to drive factor, and I cant see this one being that either. I'd rather take an Audi R8 or a Vantage or better yet, an M6.

gsh-- hard to complain about either of those cars.

This car is lookin badass! Nothing "bland/lexus" about it. That shape is sexy enough. I'd take it with the camo, so without... its gonna be smokinly hot. I mean check out the pipes! Check out the carbon fiber diffuser! siiiiiiiick shiiiiiiiit.

When parent company Toyota develops a vehicle in this category—most people take notice. The massive amount of brainpower behind the design of this vehicle will undoubtedly show Toyota/Lexus' prowess. My wife and I are both interested in learning whether this one might very well end up in one of garage bays. So far everything we've read and seen leads us to say: yes.

the SC430 isnt to popular and thats the cloest they have to a sportscar. 100,000+ is alot of money and i jsut dont think Lexus has the badge appeal to pull it off yet. maybe if they turn it into more of a Benz SL fighter rather then going after Porsche, Aston Martin Sales.

Wicked. Looks like the show car. We have the next 'it' car for Boca Raton. Wouldn't Lexus aim for Aston and the 6-series? Do the Grand Touring thing?
I love the Mini Cooper S-Works GP door mirrors, too.

I speak honestly as a German car fan... this new Lexus is looking VERY hot. 500hp from a Japanese engine probably means it'll have room for tuning upwards of 800hp... VERY tempting. And those pipes are the hottest I've seen in a new car so far. I'd hold my money and I'd look at all the options once the new wave of sport cars come in.

its gonna be a lexus...i expect a soft ride, quite interior, soft leather, and inoffensive (IE. bland) styling and an auto gearbox.

i think Toyota needs a performance brand. They have general transportation (toyota) luxury (lexus) and youth (scion). make a brand for this car, a new supra, a new MR2 and a new Celica. ppl will go nuts! Simply call it TRD.

Didnt Toyota learn from VW Phaeton? it was a killer car, its a Bentley for 1/3 of the price (saw one on ebay go for 36k!!!) But it doesnt fit into the VW image. Who asked for a super performance car from Lexus?! This is going to hurt.
