The new Volkswagen Golf R32 — which went on sale in Europe last fall — will come to the United States in June 2007 as a 2008 model, according to a report published today. Volkswagen has officially confirmed the tentative launch date, according to AutoWeek. It’s not known if the vehicle will use the Rabbit or Golf name, the magazine said. No further details were provided.

  4. just like VW, always on time! If, by ‘on time’, you mean two years after their cars go on sale in Europe.

  5. i never understood why they wait so long to bring the cars over here…maybe a few months delay but once the delay is messured in years its a problem. im sure this car will be a really nice ride. 3/4 of the performance of an evo/sti but 4x the drivablity/comfort. if i had ~30k this would be on my list of cars to drive. although the new corrado looks pretty sweet.

  9. as for the hatch not selling well…

VW built 5000 R32 the 1st time around and sold every one of them. they actaully built an extra 2500 to meet the demand. Its not a mainstream car, i doubt a non-enthusists would considerbuy it. and there are plenty of VW guys out there that worship the VR6 (i being on of them, badest sounding engine outthere) to make this a sales sucess. it may not turn a profit, but it will get alot of ppl into the show room.

  12. Anal Nonymous, settle down dude. What’s with jumping on every article telling people to buy GM cars and telling them that everything else is crap? Even I can’t make that recommendation because secretly I lust after a Lexus.

  14. I want him / her to post about how good GM cars are when LLN posts something about Acura or Lexus. Tell me how much sportier and better made a Cadillac STS is compared to a GS430…Especially when it comes to the quality of the overall product AND dealer service / customer service.

  15. WV wants to know why their sales suck in the US market? Its because they treat the US market as if this were some turd world country. VW needs to get their ass in gear, get the new models here in a timely fashion, and with a full range of options, not just 1 transmission, or 1 body style, or 1 seat set when there’s other options available. Thumbs down to VW for severly limiting our options, and showing up years late to the party.

  16. Acura and Lexus blow. Buy American, buy GM because it is your duty as an American. An STS is my dream car, make it a V8 please

  17. Yeah, they blow. Right by you in your STS…

  19. I think we have some spammers here or something…I mean, if you like American cars (I want to like them–and I do like some of them) then go ahead and state your opinion. If you think buying foreign cars is unpatriotic, then state your opinion. But this “buy a cobalt if you want a real car”, and “GM cars are far superior to this POS. Buy a Cobalt because it is GM, not some chintsy ass VW” stuff–especially since you’re posting as anonymous…I’ll be damned if it isn’t spam.

  20. Anonymous. Which side of the fence am I on when I bought my Saab 9-2X Aero that was made in Japan, carried a Sweddish brand name and that’s owned by GM? Does that make me more or less patriotic?

  21. I am just doing my duty by supporting GM. You all should try it sometime

  22. you GM loving idiots need to drive a German car sometime so you can hopefully see what a POS you are recommending to other people. this car is a dream and its sound is awe inspiring. a very important and simple fact in life that everyone should note is: AMERICANS CANNOT BUILD GOOD AUTOMOBILES aka GM Ford Chevy all suck :P

  23. You can run it over with your truck if you can cath it with the thing you’re driving. It’s not like in the movies where cops with Crown Victorias can keep up with lamborghinis.

  24. … and I’m sure the damage on your truck will be a lot worse than the damage r32 will get.

  27. i here two reasons. one, they couldnt get it to fit comfortably and two, the DSG couldnt handle it.

  30. VW is having some problems with the R36. The DSG transmission can’t handle the power that the V6 engine delivers.

I’ve heard that once the problem is licked, it’ll then come out.

As for GM… I’ve seen cow pies with more power and refinement.

  34. Anonymous, I’m not sure whether to be afraid of your ignorance, or praise the sheer brilliance of this subject evading dialogue! You must be giggling about it quietly in your cubicle.

On the other hand, if you’re taking yourself seriously when you write, I’m sure these forum ganking, brown-paper-bag-over-your-head statements of yours finally enable you to exert some power somewhere in your sad, lonely life. Enjoy your Cobalt.

  40. I bought a new MK5 DSG GTI a couple months ago and love it! The R32 is going to be awesome here in the states! My babied GTI will be up for sale next summer so I can buy a R32!

Anonymous: I promise that if you drive a MK5 GTI, you’ll get sick everytime you drive that nasty, mid-nineties design Cobalt.

MadCapp and SS, quit your crying about options and a product cycle that is different than Europe. Option pkgs AND not offering every option under the sun keeps costs down, Honda has been doing for years!

  41. Hey everybody, I have a question. well I own an 04′ R32 and one of my buddies has a Lexus GS430. Well, my question is, what do you all think could win in a race?

Comment by Chris, posted on August24 at 4:16 pm
  42. No manual.. no purchase. Ill tell you that right now VW. I was ready to go put a deposit down but if theres only a DSG ill keep my 6-speed GLI anyday. Ive driven the DSG on a handful of occasions and it still doesnt compare to a good old stick shift.
