My point is just that most of the folks poking (semi-deserved, see below) fun at the Smart not only have no idea what they're talking about, they don't even attempt to read up on the topic before doing so. I've actually had a Smart rental for two days in Germany and was shocked just how huge the thing feels on the inside and how high of a seating position you're in - you're literally looking down on any person sitting in a VW Golf/Jetta/Passat, for example. The car itself is also surprisingly tall - 1.54m (60.6") compared to 1.48m (58.25") for a Golf V. All that being said, I would never buy that "egg on wheels" - the engine is pathetic, the transmission is terrible and the interior looks like it came straight out of a cartoon for 7-year old kids (not to mention the laughable quality of the plastics used).
