Next Escalade aims to be “King of Bling”

Cadillac’s next-generation Escalade has been dubbed (pardon the pun) the “King of Bling” by company insiders. The new 2007 SUV hopes to further the brand’s hip-hop popularity and is expected to be unveiled in January. During the development phase of the vehicle, GM reportedly recruited about 30 influential actors, athletes, and musicians for feedback on design concepts. Rapper Xzibit, host of MTV’s hit car-customization show Pimp My Ride, was among the celebrities consulted. “Pop culture has embraced this vehicle, and we wanted to talk to the attendees as consumers,” says Jim Van Kirk, marketing manager for Escalade. “Only a handful of vehicles could attract this kind of attention.” Another celebrity event is rumored to be in the works for the 2008 CTS sedan.

Good job guys,

Knowing that probably 80% of your buyers are angry soccer moms, you have decided to consult the NewGen about what type of spinners and blang blang they might want? Way to do research kids.. Im sure all of the 15 year olds watching rap videos that make $100,00o a year will want it even more now.

I’ve owned an Escalade for over a year and love it, despite the retro (not in a cool way) dash and lack of interior convenience features (cupholders, storage for everyday items) and a seat that makes my hamstrings bark. And I’m a 50-year-old executive with a couple teenagers–no soccer mom, I–who drives 25K miles a year. I can’t wait to see what the 2007 looks like, hoping styling has a real-world bent and at least, gives me a fold-into-the-floor third row of seats.
