Next-generation 2007 Smart ForTwo previewed

09/04/2006, 9:25 AM

DaimlerChrysler is offering the world public a first glimpse of an undisguised successor to the current Smart ForTwo in the form of a sand sculpture. During the German beach volleyball championships in Timmendorf this weekend, Pavel Zasanyok, the three-time sand sculpture world champion from Russia, built the new smart fortwo from sand. The sculpture clearly shows the new design language and in particular the face of the new ultimate two-seater. The new smart fortwo will be presented this autumn and will be available in many markets in the spring. As previously reported, the Smart brand will become available in the United States in early 2008. The next-generation ForTwo has already been spotted in testing (disguised) in America in recent weeks. Gallery after the jump…

Huh… looks like a little kids sand castle…
only joking but it looks like it’s shorter than the model it replaces, and wider. Other than that there aren’t many major changes.

I think it’s a good looking vehicle. It’s obviously not ugly. When you really think about it, it couldn’t look much better. After all, how sporty or manly can you make a two seater this tiny look? Anyway, at the price and the mpg it gets, I’d own one.

I still think those vids on Youtube are funny… look up modified Smart on Youtube and you’ll see what I’m talking about.
I don’t see how it looks manly… for a car of this size maybe, but by no means is it manly LMHO. But it doesn’t look much different from the current one besides for a few changes

Only short minded people would think its says anything about your manhood. This car isn’t a first car or may not a second. But with a car like this you can still buy a gas guzzler and justify it to people because this car would be able to do the sort of mileage even a Prius would envy.

Personally I would buy a S-CLass 600 for long journeys and a Smart diesel Hybrid for town driving

Regardless if you like it or not the fact is it has sold loads in europe & likely to do the same when launched in america.

A lot of people are finally starting to do something about the rising motoring costs & this is hands down one of the cheapest & coolest ways to do it.
