As the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration continues to test vehicles for their crash worthiness, new models continue to be added to the small, yet ever-growing list of 2012 models that managed to earn top honors.

Now included in the 21-model-long list of 2012 models with overall ratings of five stars are the Cadillac SRX and CTS sedan (and wagon by default) models.

Interestingly, although both the SRX and CTS were awarded an overall score of five stars, the highest possible under NHTSA’s newest standards enacted in 2011, both vehicles actually scored just four stars in their rollover tests. But when averaging all scores, the final tally still came in at an overall five-star score, making the vehicles top safety picks for their respective segments.

It is also worth noting that Cadillac’s CTS wagon was also awarded a five-star score based on the performance of the CTS sedan and the two vehicles’ similarities, although testing of the CTS wagon specifically did not take place.

The other GM vehicles to obtain five-star ratings are the Buick LaCrosse without optional rear side-impact air bags, Enclave, Chevrolet Cruze, Volt, Traverse and Camaro coupe and the GMC Acadia.
