Johnny, I’m going to try to hang on as long as I can. But we’ve had massive layoffs at our site recently, and the workload has only increased. It’s becoming increasingly difficult to keep in touch. However, I won’t let go.

A Z EV would be a blast. I hybrid, maybe not so much. But I’m sure the off-the-line torque would be a lot of fun.

And Johnny, hybrids tend to have CVTs. I wonder if the stick will shift through the CVT like the Maxima’s paddles?

I think the problem would be weight. That’s one of the Z’s edges over the Mustang. A hybrid can only increase the price, and increase the weight. This will totally dilute the Z’s image as a performance car, and probably decrease enthusaist’s interest in the real Z.

It should maintain it’s strong pointss, not compromise them.

At first the new Z didn’t look so good but once I saw one on the streets I realized that it really didn’t look bad at all. The front “fangs” give the car a mean look that is only backed up by it’s killer performance. I doubt the hybrid version will be quicker then the stock one. It will be heavier obviously

Why not? Seems like a good idea and if it still performs like a regular Z or better than they should go right ahead. It would probably be even faster than the non-hybrid Z anyway.

I did not see people shooting down, it is a normal banter. Not everyone likes hybrids, and uber expensive less then practical hybrid GT car is obviously questionable in its premises. Nevertheless, if it has to scream: “My penis is larger then my electric hood” is fine.

It amazes me how many of the posts on here are about shooting down something new before having any idea at all what shape it’s going to take or what the performance stats are. If you guys had been around in 1900 you’d all be arguing to keep horse drawn carriages. Sure, this Z could suck, or it might have an additional 30 horses, get great mileage and blow the doors off the std version. Why not wait to find out before declaring it a piece of s**t. Personally, I can’t wait to see what kind of cars will be possible with the next wave of battery technology….as long as they still make ‘em with a stick….

Johnny, this is better then Saturn hybrids: those run on gasoline, E85 and TAX DOLLARS!

On a serious note what is the goal for this hybrid? Do they want fast 2 seater with good fuel economy? Z was always associated with car screaming “my penis is larger then this hood”. How battery power gets into this mix?

Very true, zfenderguy. The sad part is a lot of people who own Z’s never appreciate what the car is capable of so I imagine it’s those people whom Nissan is hoping to bank off of. That way they get a “cool” looking sports car and as an added expensive bonus, they get to feel a little bit better about themselves for going green. Those people need to buy insights and prius’s.

The quest to figure out how to charge $50K for a Z continues. Not only the cost of it alarms me, but how many people want a perfomance car that could do 30mpg, when it still has the 3.7L in it. Getting 30mpg out of it would mean you have to drive it like grandma, which defeats the purpose of this car. It will gain mass, some pretense of better fuel efficiency, and a load of cost and complexity, and that’s about it.
