I expected this from the beginning. Dual clutch transmissions cannot hold up to abuse like traditional manual transmissions. Nissan needs to fit the R35 with a real manual transmission. The R32-R34 all had real manual transmissions and none of them had these problems. The ZR1 has a manual transmission and spanks the GTR in every performance category. I hope Nissan is wise enough to put a true manual in the Spec V. Also, BMW's new dual clutch transmissions are also having problems. I'm beginning to notice a pattern.

Something else not mentioned here, is that customers had to sign a waiver stating that turning off VDC would void your warranty since that gets rid of all the protection for the transmission. It's just another case of stupid people that sign waiver documents then whine when it happens.

Oh well. Add .4 of a second to your time. BFD.

"Ooooohhh, but then the ZR-1 is better!"

It better be for costing 30,000 more!!!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA...thats great. So now the smokescreen begins to dissapate. Soon Mythbusters will have a GT-R special where they run performance tests and show its a huge fake. They will then reveal it's actually powered by a JATO, and can't physically produce the claimed numbers with the TT V-6 engine.

Yes, but will Toyota and Honda be out of money this coming year like the US Big three?

Chrysler deserves to die. Why? If for any one reason, it is for making the Neon. Biggest POS ever made here in the states.

hmm maybe the next GT-R design should be smaller, and lighter more like the R34 and have a more durable, true manual option... and NMOFGM... you are a clown...

Not sure how this can be, since Car and Driver made no mention of how the launch control was hidden, and did 15 launches during their test and it didn't mess up at all.

Doesn't matter. The GT-R posted the same times in C&D Chevy ZR-1.
Funny fact too, the GT-R costs $30,000 less and performs just as well with 158 horsepower . Damn those Japs.

And Need for GM loser, why don't you change your name to "Need more money for GM" cause that's what your pathetic company begged for this week and was properly denied so it can die.

I guess that's why the ZR-1 didn't come with launch control - GM knew it would trash the transmission and kill the clutch.

This system probably works more durably with a traditional automatic with a torque converter to absorb shocks in the drivetrain.

"As of 2005, Aisin AW surpassed General Motors Powertrain Division as the largest producer of automatic transmissions in the world" Seems strange that it would be a GM design, and Aisin builds it. Toyota is a 51% owner of Aisin, and Toyota has a hand in most designs. Aisin transmissions are in every OEM around the world. I still don't see how GM 'designed' it.

Need more oil for GM,

I don't think that BMWs use GM sourced boxes, or even a model close to it, even if they were to share suppliers. As far as I know, BMWs generally use ZF or Getrag boxes, which is not something you see too often on GM cars (except maybe the old CTS-V).

Launch Control will always be harsh on a transmission, it's not like it's recommended to be used all the time even on cars like Ferrari or Porsche. Same with manual cars, dropping the clutch is a pretty excruciating event for the clutch, the synchros and the gearbox itself.

I'm guessing that Nissan did fuck up by not building a strong enough transmission to handle this at least sometimes, but if this is not an official "feature" of the car, one can't really bitch them for doing anything wrong, except for not disabling this non-feature earlier.

And GM transmissions can be found in BMW's and Volvo's. About the only thing that IS reliable on those cars. And Aisin builds the transmissions for GM, but they are still GM designs. Aveo's are the most reliable cars in their class btw, so your argument is pointless

First, I don't recall mentioning the word Camry in any post I've made on this forum. Second, since the point of my comment was completely lost on you, I'll spell it out for you, even as smart as you are. If GM does not get some dosh soon, they will not be building Corvettes, Camaros or "the hottest midsize sedan on the planet". Selecting a Malibu to make my point was purely random, not a slight at that particular car. Got that now, genius?

The GT-R is weak. It's fragile. It's just another cheap ass, tin piece of crap from Japan. maybe if the drivetrain weren't made from recycled Coca-Cola cans, it would be as strong as the one in a Chevy Aveo. Keep trying boys, Americans are getting a huge laugh out of your fuckups.

If the consumer demands it, GM will build it. The Malibu is the hottest selling midsize sedan on the planet. Oh and before you go off blabbing about the Camry, I hate to burst your bubble but the Camry sales are false once you figure out that the japs base their numbers on the amount of cars they make, not how many they sell. If you were smart enough to understand, you would realize that actual Camry sales are about 1/10th that amount.

Wake up people. GM cars are the hottest thing right now and they have put out nothing but class leaders once yopu get past those biased ignorant focks who dare call themselves Americans.

@nmofgm, before you go shooting your load prematurely (again), talking about reliability and performance, you might want to wait until next spring to see if GM can afford to build a Malibu, let alone a Corvette or Camaro.

Leave it to the Japanese to fock up a car with yet more and more reliablity and quality problems. Japcrap to its finest.

Relaly, the only car that is built for pulling hole shots is a Corvette or the new Camaro. Everyone knows GM is the only company who can build a reliable car with high performance. Everything else is too fragile for anything but driving Miss Daisy jaunts to the grocery store.

Porsche introduced launch control on their (997)GT2 model. Second car to have it will probably be the revised 997 Turbo next year.

BTW, Porsche DOES NOT voice you're warranty for using it. Then again, they know how to build transmissions that actually last. Something that most Japanese haven't figured out yet.
Way to go Nissan. Instead of coming up with a solution to the problem...give up.

The record is for fastest time completing a lap
The record says nothing about from a standing start
That isn't the fastest way to complete a lap

Jet-fuel assisted take off- a rocket in other words. Here, I plucked this off Wikipedia...

The JATO Rocket Car is a famous urban legend that relates the story of a car equipped with JATO units that is later found smashed into a mountainside. This story is often given as an example of a Darwin Award; however it appears to be apocryphal, with no basis in fact. The legend was tested in 2003 on the Discovery Channel show MythBusters. They replicated the scene and the thrust of the JATO with some commercially-available amateur rocket motors. The car did go very fast, outrunning the chase helicopter, but nowhere near the 300 mph (500 km/h) reported in the original story, and failed to become airborne.
