How did this turn into a discussion about the Monte Carlo? I thought that ended production in 2005.

You’re probably right Jake. But I’m not mad at him, just trying to correct. I’m that type of person who is irritated when somebody says something incorrect, or is trying to misinform people.

So comp, please tell me where on the Chevrolet website are facts about the 2009 Monte Carlo. In North America, preferably the United States. Show a link and i will believe you.

Don’t be mad at comp – he’s probably about 14 using his parents computer. Even in 2007 that ‘new’ Monte Carlo was based on a platform better knoewn as the W-platform that dated back to 1988 and even the outside was a simple refresh on the 2000-2005 Monte. In other words, parts of the car have been around before you were born. That’s really not that new is it?

I’ve driven this new Altima coupe and the new Monte Carlo. The Monte soaks up the road so much better and suffers from less wheel hop. However I’d take the Altima, for me I like everything else put into this car allot more. Seems like most Altima coupe owners are women. Not that that’s bad, just mentioning.

These vehicles and their popularity amaze me. A friend just bought an Accord coupe and a colleague has an Altima coupe. Both say they just can’t see owning a sedan, it is a “grandaddy” vehicle. These guys are in their 40’s. Driving fugly disco-car wannabes.

$29,600 MSRP for a front drive coupe? It is a beautiful design but that’s an awfully expensive price for a very 90’s drivetrain philosophy. Manual transmissions shouldn’t be such a premium.

^LOL, I hear ya on the the looks. I think everything should be body-color, black or matte-finish silver on all cars and chrome should be left to the folks who seem to want to have chrome on everything. You live in St. Louis, I see chrome on everything and even a brand new MKS and a CTS with a faux-convertable top. Not a racial thing as much as me pointing to the aging population.

i really didn’t like the front end on the older version, that was holding it back, from my perspective…the rear end (which is g35esque) looked good from the get go and i don’t think having that family resemblance is a bad thing at all…i’m not a fan of the chrome bits in the grille, but that’s just my pet peeve…i’m anti-chrome in general (no offense to goggle)…

karloveboy88, i don’t think it’s being marketed as a sports car, so i don’t think it has very far to go at all, i think it’s where it needs to be…i still find it hard to justify losing the utility of more door and bigger boot of a hatchback, or even a sedan, though, as your only car…but i’m being slightly hypocritical here since i’ve owned 3 cars that have all been 2 door coupes of various sizes and shapes…

i’m underwhelmed by this, I like the new grill more but the headlights a bit less. if i see it in person i may thing otherwise though. they still make the best looking Japanese cars.
CVT hope they keep the 6speed manual friend has one of those it is a fast power full car.

Looks great. The front end looks more like an Infinity. This car has a great overall flow without being too outrageous like say the new Hyundai Sonata. I don’t see as many of these in California as the Accord coupe or Solara, maybe that will change.

I think Nissan has the most avant guard designs on this side of the Atlantic. It is very reminiscent of Renault, which in my book is not bad at all. Does it appeal to all people? No, but it appeals to most important audience – the ones who buy it. I personally stick with Honda, but not because of looks, but because of engine and transmission combination along with feel of the car on the road. That feel is hard to quantify, but for some it is the most important attribute.

Oh, and bravo Nissan for putting projectors on it, that’s a big step up in lighting. I also like the new wheel designs because I wasn’t the only one to laugh at the ones the original coupe had to fill in the wheel wells. The stereo also looks good, I don’t want navi (too expensive) but I like the screen to show more than just a track # or half of a song’s name (thanks VW). That’s the new thing is to have the screen with no navi – VW started in 2010 putting it in the CC/Passat and GTI and it looks good too.

Honestly, the worst thing about the Altima from 07-09 was it’s front end, it looked just, eh, unfinished like DenverGuy said. If I keep myself from trading in my car, I may just look at these again. I like what Johnny said about the FWD, it so happens to snow here too every once in awhile and I only have one car.

I love this model. It’s just one of the very few clean, well proportioned and- most importantly- not boring Japanese pieces out there. As a year rounder for commuting (yeah it’s fwd but it does snow once in a while up here) I think it would be a great choice. In fact if I had to choose between this and the Accord Coupe which I also admire I’d probably pick the Nissan just because there aren’t as many.

And I like the refresh. When the design is this good to begin with it’s tough to screw it up.

@ JSi – Genesis is RWD, this is FWD. For people who but a car like this, it matters.

This isn’t a bad looking car but it is somewhat bland for what it is capable of. It does 0-60 in under 6 seconds but looks slower than a Camary Solara. This current gen Altima, coupe or sedad, looks very bland. The only decent Nissan to me is the 370Z though I would still buy a Camaro over it. Nissan has always charged a premium for it’s cars but don’t make premium cars. Compared to Toyota, Honda, Ford, and even VW. Maximas easily surpass $35k. That is nearing an equaly equipped G37. No thanks.

You know, I’ve been lookign at Mazda6’s to replace the GTI with and I would much rather have a coupe… I think Mazda should make a 6 Coupe that would at least look more fluid than the Nissan. It’s not a bad car, though, and I may end up with one of these, I just prefer Mazda’s front end.

I never realized just how slow LLN is to report news since all these stories and photos have been on other sites 24-48 hrs ago

I like the updates to the front of the coupe (and sedan) making them more substantial in presence, but I wish they had done something to the rear and taillights. This coupe always seems unfinished to me, as-if it belongs one model segment below the Altima. It’s especially apparent in the models approaching $30k
