Nissan updates Altima Sedan for 2010

10/01/2009, 2:06 PM

By Drew Johnson

Keeping in line with the modest mid-cycle refresh of the Altima Coupe, Nissan has unveiled an updated version of the Altima Sedan. The 2010 Altima Sedan update includes some styling tweaks – both inside and out – as well as an electronics upgrade.

Up front, the Altima Sedan sports a new front fascia, complete with a revised hood, a new grille and updated bumper. As with the Altima Coupe, new wheel designs and a revised exterior color pallet are part of the 2010 refresh.

Inside, the Altima Sedan has been given a modest redo, but the changes include better interior fabrics and better quality material pieces.

The Altima Sedan’s navigation system sees the biggest upgrade for 2010, moving from a 4.3 inch display to a 6.5 inch touch-screen unit. Nissan’s Hard Drive Navigation System now includes advanced map data including speed limit advisories, Zagat restaurant guide, XM NavTraffic and XM NavWeather, Bluetooth Streaming Audio, DVD player and an RCA input for auxiliary audio/video connectivity. A 9.3 GB Music Box is also included in Nissan’s navigation system.

A new Bose audio system is also available on the 2010 Altima Sedan, featuring a 4.3 inch color display, 9-speakers, USB port and iPod connectivity, Bluetooth hands-free calling and Nissan’s RearView Monitor system.

Pricing for the 2010 Nissan Altima Sedan starts at $19,900 for the 2.5 S model, equipped with a 2.5L four-cylinder and Nissan’s CVT transmission. The up-level 3.5 SR model – taking the place of the previous SE model – starts at $24,520, packing a 3.5L V6 mated to a CVT.

I’m so happy that Nissan did away with a stick-shift in the Altima sedan and only offers a CVT. I mean, who the heck wants to deal with the headache and confusion of picking a gear?

It’s only missing the paddles for the CVT, Smegley. Although the + and – kind of make up for the lack of paddles.

This refresh is more unremarkable than the Camry’s.

If they’re going to go through the trouble of changing it, or “refresh” as they like to call it, why don’t they make the change more noticeable? It looks the same as the 2009 model. The automobile companies have forgotten that newness sells.

Dangerous1 +1. Remember the days when you could tell what year virtually any model was just by looking at the grill?

Johnny, styling wise we are now we are moving toward Model Decades, not Model Years.

Audi is almost doing Model Centuries though. Their styling evloves slower than monkeys to man.

The taillights still ruin the car for me, but definitely like the update to the front end. the grill reminds me of what the upcoming Hyundai Sonata’s grill would look like if they straightened out the chrome bars

I always wonder about these refreshes. When the car is first introduced, the marketing team goes all out to talk about the great quality of materials they have now put inside the car so forget about the outgoing model’s lacklister image. . A couple years later there is always a refresh which highlights ‘higher quality of materials inside”. So actually, you WERE using some rather low quality materials originally? Drives me nuts.

This has always looked good on the outside and it does drive well. The interior is really what needs improvement

Need more oil for GM dumbass

Will it be defective and full of recalls? Will it rot out and suffer massive engine and transmission failure right after the warranty expires just like all other Nissan vehicles (And every other import)?

The Chevy Volt is the car that will destroy Nissan hybrid . Everyone will be lined up out the door to get into a Volt. Consider Nissan dead.

Be American. Buy American. Buy GM

Once again NMOGM has nothing but issues.

Well maybe they will be lined up out the door for a volt
BUT, Septembers numbers do not look like it is a long line for anything.

Now that the sales numbers are coming out.

The number do not lie………………….

NMOGMD: I suppose if you like an overpriced, ugly, GM, with a shoddy interior. Like every other GM product.

The original NMOFGM isn’t funny, why would anyone try to imitate him?

Yet they did nothing to refresh the ugly taillights.

Regarding design, does anyone know what they’re calling the latest trend in design in which the grille area (central front fascia) notably protrudes and carries on from the hood?

I really dont understand this trend. First the 4Runner takes a step back in design, now this. Dead serious, this looks more like the last generation Altima than the pre-updated one that’s currently out.

The interior is still ALL black. Automakers need to stay away from that as much as possible. Just so horribly ugly in nearly any color.

meh, Its uglier and is a minor difference imo, nothing special.

I would love to own one of the 1990 300ZX Twin Turbo’s, and improve the interior(maybe new leather, new air-con, etc.)

This is an update? What a joke. Exterior looks aged and the interior pieces look cheapened. Last time I sat in one of these at an auto show in Miami, I was very disappointed with the cheap feeling bits especially the steering wheel and shifter, dash pieces.

Upcoming 2011 Sonata looks much more impressive compared to this.

No manual trans = Not worth looking at. The list of M/T V6 combos is getting smaller and more expensive every year. What a shame :(
