As for the VETTE, It is the standard now and has been since the introduction of the C5. Like it or not. It, like the FORD GT-40 mkI-V, the McLaren F1, the Bugatti Veyron, and the Ferrari F40, is a car to which all others must aspire to even qualify.

The R35’s best analog would be the Veyron as the other techno-beast, price not withstanding. So technically it’s qualified for something else.

I read that article as well. I am referring to this months Road and Track Shootout. That article did not even live up to the title. C6 Z06 compared to three other cars under constraints that when you actually read the article you could tell the writers were genuflecting to the R35 like a bunch of sycophants trying to clearly trying to sell rag to NISSAN fanboys. Of course, it came out on top. They were selling the book to you, chump.

The Road and Track article was written with direct input from actual race and performance drivers and they did not care about the obvious usefulness of a backseat, The Evo X has that and AWD, too, Price, the EXO X was the least expensive by almost 30 grand and the Aston martin cost more than 50 gran more than the next most expensive car.

This shootout was totally balanced with input but experienced drivers testing sports cars, not a bunch of hacks who can’t honestly tell the difference between an I4 Camry and AMG Benz. “Oh the seats felt good, so I like it better.”

The R&T shootout was about which was the better sports car and the GT-R35 was not it. Not that it wasn’t close but I don’t make this stuff up either, Punk.

This thread is about NISSAN rolling out a new version of their most impressive car yet. For an endurance version I would have expected less power to preserve the engine. or a larger radiator to aid with cooling over the long haul.

I don’t think it will change anything. The Vspec is the main show. But it will be for not if ACURA and Lexus shut it down first.

You really should have read the ENTIRE article and not the parts that back your lame-brained arguments. The Gallardo won overall, the VIPER ACR took second, and the R35 (I am not confusing the AUDI R8) took third.

The Shootout involved 10 cars driven are four tracks but professional drivers. Each driver driving each car at each track.

How remarkable. An unbiased and far assessment of every car of interest within the comparison range. Tested as Sport cars and nothing else. Not whether it is more practical, or less expensive, or if it looks nicer (which the R8 was the winner for me), or how fast it can cut a hot lap at Nurburgring (which was NOT one of the venues).

And you know what. Your fantasy that the R35 is invincible was shattered.

I would seriously doubt that the R35 and the C6 are any better than the other in terms of quality, but you would have to come back in 10 years and 100+K miles before you can make that argument. To make your argument you would have to pretend that DETROIT did not learn anything over the last 20+ years about building a quality automobile. Either that or you believe everything your parents tell you like a whipped little urchin.

That is a red herring and just points to how mindlessly comfortable some people are with being wrong. Go actually spend some time with a Current GM, FORD, or CHRYSLER and you will have to suck bile to keep ragging on DETROIT’s quality.

Also you need to learn the difference between cheaper and less expensive. The C^ is not by anyone’s standard a cheap car. Inexpensive as sports cars go yes. Cheap. Only a neophyte without a clue could make such a determination. And If I thought the R35 was not my “cup of tea” and I just preferred the CORVETTE, who in the sixth level of Hell are you to look down on me.

Next Practicality be damned! If you can foot for a $70K SPORTS car who gives a flip about a backseat. Also, I’ll say it again in the same thread, the backseat of a GT-R35 is for show unless you are a small child or a midget. You buy a VETTE, and VIPER, a FERRARI, LAMBORGHINI, et al, and still need a back seat to haul the family, buy a BMW, CADILLAC, MERCEDES-BENZ, or what have you. You really have no concept of money. If you really need a backseat and can afford only one car… The R35 is among the last cars on your list.

That is generally the assessment of 75% of the Auto public perception of the GT-R. Most people who see the car for the first time think it is some freaked out G35. They thing the R35 is the cheap heap with $60K in mods. While those same people KNOW the CORVETTE is 100% a Racecar tamed for the streets.

Interesting video. Too bad it was so dark and/or wasn’t done from a “chase” car. But The R35 really can not make up for it’s mass and lack of power from a rolling start. It couldn’t even keep up despite the bad starts by the Vette.

I have to wonder if export C6 Z06s are much harder edged cars than US-spec machines sometimes. Hopefully the C7 Z06 will take a firmer, more race-oriented, handling stance than the C6. The power and weight are already there. Just handling remains to be addressed.

In the end, as someone previously said here, it will come down to preference. I’ll take the Vette. GT-R comes in at a close second–if only these two cars are offered.

Corvettes are overrated. I’d take a basemodel GT-R with crank windows and no power steering before i got behind the wheel of any corvette.

That the GT-R does all that it does and has a backseat, which those who actually drove the thing say is as much use as the one in the 911, meaning you are a small child or a midget to be comfortable in the back of a GT-R, is truly a feat, but not overly remarkable.

If AUDI, PORSCHE, and a half dozen other car makers around the world cared to, they could top the R35 in their sleep at the same price or less. No no car woodies or drooling here.

Having said that, as a sports car, the R35 is impressive but is lacking in almost everything else someone buying a sports car would want. Namely the feel, fun, and atmosphere of a race car without so much of the noise and hassle.

The R35 has been called by critics as a “robot looking for a soul”, “so stable and confidence it is boring”, “A video game but not in a good way”, and other less than flattering things someone with deep pockets will not be to thrilled with…

BTW did I mention they all agree that the R35 is less than handsome and one crease better looking than ugly.

The overall winner was the The LAMBORGHINI Gallardo LP540 (? I can’t recall the exact designation) the VIPER ACR taking second with R35 was third. It was no shocker that the C6 Z06 came up sixth, it was not the most aggressive machine going in and the ZR-1 was not available for the shootout.

AS for the ZR-1 being aced by the GT-R, that has not been shown. But I somehow doubt the R35 Vspec would actually beat the ZR-1. Cutting a hot lap around Nurburgring sounds cool but is actually quite useless to a racer NOT in Germany, deutschetouring1337.

Also Amuse’s ECU crack doesn’t really count for spit because the mod is not NISSAN source factory. It’s cool but pointless.

#1 – Corvette needed 147 more HP to beat it by a few seconds

#2 – Amuse has cracked the ECU and has a 602.73 hp and 576.95 lb.-ft. powered GTR

If you’d like to talk about interior quality… what about fuel consumption? The GT-R gets 15-22. In terms of performance, it’s just above the ZO6, which gets 16-26. Not only that, but the Z06 doesn’t need a ridiculous “maintainence” (es) center specifically for the vehicle, has straight forward performance figures (Nissan’s hp figures are higher than actual vehicle production figures, their Nurburgring laps aren’t run stock, despite trying to break the stock record, etc.), and very, very delicate maintaining as recommended by Nissan.

And you know, Nissan has now begun to back away from that 7:29 figure they posted back a while ago. They’ve been advertising the run they did in dry, great conditions with street legal treaded tires, which was in 7:38. 12 seconds slower than the stock Vette’.

And hey, personally I think the Corvettes better looking, Much more simple, much more durable design and very sporty looking. The GT-R is pure Japanese design; and that’s fine, but it doesn’t have the curves or the appeal that a Corvette has. It just doesn’t look “sporty”.

if you’re referring to previous gen skylines, then you’re not even having the same conversation the rest of us are. the current gen skyline is the infiniti g37. it’s platform is unrelated to the gt-r.
