If you haven't driven one, you'll never understand the hype. GT-R's are flat out amazing cars. Consider that the R33 and R34 models both held the production car record at the Nurburgring Nordschleife, until beaten by the Porsche 911, and then compare the cost of a 911 Turbo to a GT-R. I can't really speak for the upcoming model, but based on performance of the old models, and the fact that new generation GT-R's have always out performed the ones they replace... just like Mitsubishi Evo's... this new one should be a hell of a drive.

It's moved upmarket to compete with the Porsche 911. Likely, it will still weigh close to the original. R34 GT-R's were about $60,000 anyway.

The engine has been designed to handle more than 500 horsepower easily. It's a NEW engine and overbuilt compared to the Skyline's V6. The platform is also based off the FM design but it is modified significantly from the version the SKyline/G35 uses.

Sure, there are better cars out there: Porsche 911 Turbo, Porsche RUF, Ferarri 599, Lamborghini, Bugatti Veyron, Konegseigg CCX, Molser MT900S....

Oh wait.... don't those cars cost a lot more than $70,000 MSRP?

Maximus... you understand the point of hotrodding cars, right? The GT-R is a car that was originally built to be an overbuilt 500 horsepower racecar, then detuned for the street with the same engine. It has been pushed to at least 1,400 horsepower by some tuners. The car is so popular because it delivers high performance and can be tweaked for even more. This new model was built *specifically* with this room to grow in in horsepower because it is a niche market vehicle and the buyers fully expect this.

A Honda S2000 is also a "tuned" vehicle but it was built by the factory to be pushed to the Maximum already. To cite a different example, a Mustang is sold as a "tuner" or "hotrod" vehicle at a certain price point and Ford Motor Company knows that buyers will modify the engine for more horsepower. Even Porsches and Ferraris are subjected to engine modification.

Tuneability, high performance durability and actual racing heritage are big selling points, especially when the vehicle being sold is intended to be bought by car enthusiasts who will modify their engines.

Sounds like it will be a contender. Can't wait to see what the tuners do with it. Probably turn the boost up too high and grenade the engine.

Maybe that lab guy wearing the white overalls is "The Stig" testing the car out. I hope they change the interior a bit because it looks a bit like the interiors of Ford F150 pickup and the Expedition with a huge square section flanked by two circular aircon vents.

lotta buttons on the steering wheel... I wonder if it's anything besides stereo controls and cruise control? I hope so, that'd be pretty cool.

mannn, this car is so amazing.... to say that I REALLY WANT ONE would be a huge understatement. just being able to see one in person would be amazing.

I look forward to seeing the real performance numbers of this car.

This car is going to be so BADASS! At 70k this and the Z06 will certainly go head-head! It's already being tested vs the 997 turbo and doing very well.
