Nissan launches “Mobile Hub” to kick-off Cube sales

05/05/2009, 12:52 PM

By Andrew Ganz

Nissan’s boxy Cube, which goes on sale officially today, will be launched with an innovative marketing campaign that will encourage audiences to send a text message to a shortcode number in order to access a “Mobile Hub” with downloadable wallpapers, videos, music, ringtones and even an iPhone application.

Though we’ve seen iPhone applications used to market new cars before, Nissan promises the “Cube Party Roundup” will be a little different. Up to eight players can join in on the mission-based application that simulates driving the Cube on the way to a party. Eventually, Nissan will launch a Facebook “Cube Party Roundup” that will allow users to tell their friends about upcoming events.

The Cube goes on sale today, though the “Mobile Hub” won’t be launched until May 15 and the iPhone and Facebook applications won’t be available until early June.

I really want the Cube to do well and all, but an iPhone game? Really? Bit too gimmicky for me.

Question:

Will the game promote it’s poor aerodynamics and abysmal 0-60 times? “Sorry, I missed your phone call saying the party was moved, I was pushing the pedal all the way down to get to 60 and between the wind noise and the motor whine, I started crying when the Geo Metro passed me up”

Lol Jake! This car is all about getting noticed. And with every other car on the road passing it there’s no doubt that in at least that one regard it’s bound to be a unqualified success.

OK, so it has aerodynamics of a country outhouse, but it can be had with 6 speed tranny, and maybe, just maybe it can move in lower 3 gears.

This thing looks terrible and the interior is bad as well I dont like this or the Versa Nissan hasnt been been impressing me in the compact cars dept Honda seems to have it with the Element & Fit. Kia seems to have hit the nail on the head with that Soul

I think this looks better than the horrible Element box (and I dont know why they sell). Something different and practical. Lets see how ppl will receive this :)
