First 2019 Bullitt Mustang sells at auction

Ford sold the very first 2019 Bullitt Mustang for $300,000. We don't know how much the model costs yet but it's certainly not priced that high. The proceeds from the sale will benefit a charity named Boys Republic that helps troubled teenagers.

Resto-modded Range Rover gets CTS-V power

Meet the Range Rover Chieftain, a resto-modded SUV with classic looks and modern guts. The flared fenders and double exhaust pipes hint that power comes from a CTS-V-sourced V8 engine that makes 560 horsepower. Builder Jensen International Automotive also upgraded the chassis.

Polestar 2, 3 will get new design

The Polestar 1 looks like a Volvo S90 coupe, partly because it's modeled after a concept the Swedish brand introduced. Company CEO Thomas Ingenlath revealed the company's second and third models (called, aptly, 2 and 3) won't draw inspiration from the Volvo line-up. They'll wear "special Polestar shapes," according to Autocar.

Datsun shows first crossover

Datsun is riding the crossover wave. The born-again econobox specialist just introduced the Cross, a high-riding soft-roader previewed by the GO-Cross concept shown in India in 2016.

Toyota invests $490M in France

Toyota will invest 400 million euros (about $490 million) in its French factory. The cash injection will be used to upgrade the facility and prepare it to build an additional model based on the brand's TNGA platform. Currently, the factory only builds the Yaris. French website LeBlogAuto speculates the second model will replace the Auris, which we know as the Corolla iM.

BMW charging annual fee for CarPlay

BMW will begin charging owners $80 annually for Apple CarPlay when it rolls out its 2019 models. The German brand is the first auto-maker to turn CarPlay into an annual subscription service. Some companies charge a one-time fee for it, while others (like Ford) offer it for free.

Ghosn announces second Alpine model

Renault-Nissan boss Carlos Ghosn announced Alpine is ready to begin the second phase of its renaissance, which will include a second model to sit alongside the A110. Your guess is as good as ours when it comes to what's next. Some rumors claim an A110 convertible while others believe we'll see a Porsche Macan-like SUV.

Hackett ensuring Ford doesn't get caught off-guard

Ford CEO Jim Hackett is looking ahead to ensure the company doesn't get caught off-guard. He's notably keeping an eye on companies from outside the automotive world like Apple and Google. "Apple is not going to bring the Apple car to the Detroit auto show. They're going to come at us in a way we didn't expect, and I think I know how they're going to do that, too."

Jeep Renegade getting bigger infotainment screen

Jeep's refreshed Renegade will receive a bigger infotainment screen. It will also get minor visual tweaks, though the changes will be evolutionary at best. Look for the 2019 Jeep Renegade to make its debut in the coming months -- possibly at the New York Auto Show.

Hackett almost declined Ford CEO job

Recently-appointed Ford CEO Jim Hackett almost declined the job, he revealed. The 62-year old was semi-retired and living comfortably when his friend Bill Ford offered him the job. He accepted after his wife and kids told him he'd regret saying no.
