Nissan NISMO 370Z to start from $39,130

06/17/2009, 8:50 AM

By Nick Aziz

The NISMO 370Z is a high-performance version of the 370Z Coupe developed by Nissan’s Specialty Vehicles Group in conjunction with tuning partner Autech Japan. The all-new NISMO is offered in one fully-loaded model with a close-ratio six-speed manual transmission only. It also features a race-inspired interior and exterior, specially tuned suspension, and lightweight alloy wheels.

Power comes from a tuned version of the company’s 3.7-liter motor, offering 350 horsepower at 7,400 rpm — an increase of 18 hp over the standard model. Peak torque is 276 pound-feet at 5,200 rpm — 6 lb-ft more than the regular 370Z.

The car lists from $39,130. There are just three available options: special floor mats ($115), a trunk mat ($95) and illuminated kick plates ($200).

“The NISMO name is known throughout the world as the leading supplier of race-bred, factory-tuned, extreme performance Nissan parts, accessories and vehicles,” said Al Castignetti, vice president and general manager, Nissan Division, Nissan North America. “The new, second-generation NISMO Z proudly – and deservedly – wears the NISMO badge, carrying on the tradition of bringing racing- inspired performance and engineering to the street.”

The six-speed manual features Nissan’s new “SynchroRev Match” function, the world’s first synchronized downshift rev matching manual transmission system. The “SynchroRev Match” function automatically controls and adjusts engine speed when shifting to the speed of the next gear position, essentially “blipping” the throttle to smooth out any up/down shifts.

Nissan tuned the Nismo’s suspension for a firmer ride and sharper handling. Compared to a standard 370Z Coupe, front spring rates have been dialed up 15 percent, rear spring rates 10 percent, front stabilizer bar rate upped 15 percent, and the rear stabilizer bar is 50 percent stiffer. The roll stiffness rate has been increased by 15 percent and front and rear damping factors have been increased by 40 percent and 140 percent, respectively.

The NISMO 370Z rides on unique 5-spoke Nissan-branded 19-inch RAYS forged aluminum-alloy wheels (19×9.5-inch front, 19×10.5-inch rear) mounted with Yokohama ADVAN Sport Y-rated high-performance tires (P245/40ZR19 front, P285/35ZR19 rear). Bringing the NISMO 370Z to a stop are standard NISMO Sport Brakes with large diameter 14.0-inch front and 13.8-inch rear vented rotors with 4-piston front and 2- piston rear aluminum calipers.

“One look at the dramatic NISMO 370Z body and you know that this isn’t your everyday sports car,” said Castignetti. “The styling is highly emotional yet totally functional – expressing dynamic movement while enhancing airflow and downforce for enhanced aerodynamic performance.”

How about this as an option: front lights that aren’t ugly.

I want to hate this car for its boy-racer character and its irksome exhauste note, but I really just can’t. It offers so many cool features for such realtive value.

Pure sex. Though the optional “trunk” mat is ridiculous. That has as much trunk as I do…

It didn’t sound as gay as the backpedal did, lol, kidding man.

Who doesn’t regret something on the internet.

This car is the full nuts, it has some serious nuts and a great body. I’d like to get inside one and give it a good ride.

………………………wait. Did that sound gay?

I love this car but I wouldn’t shell out the extra 7K for 18 hp, 19″ wheels and a boy racer spoiler.

Good morning ladies. Am I interrupting some kind of tea party?

The spec is impressive: 350 ponies out of 3.7 naturally aspirated engine. Torque comes a bit high, but to be expected. The question in my simple mind: how come Ford could not come with anything like that in past 2-3 decades? this is remark about Ford’s upcoming all new 3.7L engine for ‘tang. I wonder how electronics will work with downshifting 2-3 gears at a time? Will it interfere with revving engine up?

No factory oil cooler, which has proven to be an issue for the standard 370Z model. If Nissan would add that then this car would be a great value.

Borat, I’m sure that on PlayStation the downshifting will be flawless.

Ha! nice comeback johnnycancuck. But this car is bad ass. Its damn near 400hp and its just a V-6. Most Ferrari’s have V-10 engines and barely put out 500hp. Talk about price gouging. Besides, people pay upward of $40k for a similarly equipt G37 and it only gets 330hp. You only pay $37? for the Nismo 370z and get 350hp. Thats practically a bargain.

They have done a better job with this one then the 350 Nismo. Ive read the aeros work very well on it and the boost in power is always good. They have hit a sweet spot of price/performance.

I like this car a lot, but I would still rather just get a normal Z with all the nismo performance parts as options. I know the body kit is functional but like some said it does look boy-racerish.
