Nissan previews 2008 Infiniti G35 Coupe

01/10/2007, 3:08 AM

By admin

Nissan has released a design sketch of the 2008 Infiniti G35 Coupe, which is expected to be unveiled during or before the New York Auto Show in April.

The new G35 coupe will arrive in showrooms later this year, roughly one year after the 2007 G35 sedan became available. Clearly derived from the Infiniti Coupe Concept — first shown a year ago in Detroit — the production 2008 G35 coupe also features a number of design cues from the sedan.

It’s not known if Nissan has dropped plans for the “G37” name it trademarked early last year, or if the coupe will feature a different engine displacement than 3.5 liter sedan. Full image after the jump…

It’s the concept without the sharp nose, as Mr. Nakamura already said when the Coupe Concept was shown.

The Skyline GT-R has been a Nissan brand for the last 40 years why do you think that it will change?

by the the why Nissan USA website as the car listed as a “upcoming vehicle spring 2008″ if you don’t believe what i am saying.

I dunno – I think I liked the front fascia on the concept better, but I’m glad they kept the headlamps. Looks like Nissan’s pullin’ a tack from BMW and trying to keep the coupe distinctive from the sedan.

Can’t help but feel sorry for this G35 Coupe because when the new GTR arrives, Nissan will definitely have the upper hand in terms of flagship car performance. Can’t have the lower echelon Nissan upstaging its luxury division. I wonder if they will drop a twin turbo version of the VQ V-6 plus rear wheel drive in order to even out the odds. The design is definitely better than the hohum sedan.

The photos of this car were very cool. But I’ll have to get used to seeing it first. The current G35 coupe was love at first sight the new one is a bit too slick for me. It’s still a looker, but not as pleasing to look at.

This car will complement the Nissan GT-R well. Infiniti is a luxury division, so the balls-out GT-R belongs over at Nissan. The G35 is an entry-level luxury coupe, and fits very well within Infiniti’s lineup.

Brings up a good question though…should a true sports car exist within a luxury division of a car company that also has a more basic division? Oddglat wisely pointed out that a Corvette is not a Cadillac. Seems to work for Chevy, and look how unsuccessful the XL-R has been for Cadillac.

I’m amazed at how the Detroit-Domestics-Only Propaganda Machine moves into high gear come Auto Show time. How can Chevy have Car & Truck of the Year when far superior vehicles like the ones put out by Infiniti, are never considered? I know the answer. I’m just trying to be a smart ass.

The CTS is a whole different league so no, it shouldn’t compete with this because this Nissan will have its ass handed to it (If it doesn;t break down first :D )

The G6 is fair comparison to this and in this case, the Nissan is the loser. Not only does Pontiac have better engines, they have better quality, reliability and performance.

Nissan leads in the amount of visits to the dealer for repairs it needs in its short lifetime. I see Nissans littered all over the roads here in Michigan so I should know.

you should be locked up for defamation of the Nissan/Infiniti brand!

you can stick with your 3.6L 256hp Pontiac G6 but 99% of car buyers don’t want to burn their money away on trash, so i think the 2008 g35 will blow the competition away.

the G35 (g37?) is the way forward. the GT-R’s luxurious little brother. i cant wait NISSAN!

I thought Nissan changed the moniker the Skyline name is now the G35 coupe and the GT-R is the new supercar chassis. The Skyline/GT-R name has been split into 2 diff cars.

he is being sarcastic because obviously the GT-R will have a V6TT ENGINE.

“the new 2009 GT-R WILL have a 3.7L twin turbo V6 engine with 500bhp for $50,000″

This car is the GT-R’s cheaper brother.

I hope it looks more like the concept than this. The first model was love at first sight, and the coupe concept had an extremely high drool factor. I didn’t think you could make the old one look more beautiful, but then I saw the concept. That sketch is horrile (IN COMPARISON). It looks like a lexus and partly Ferrari 612. Granted, both beautiful cars. It doesn’t make sense, though for nissan to put out this sketch now. Doesn’t it go from sketch, to 3D, to prototype? We’ve alread seen one built; MIND YOU, one that had seatbelts, window controls on the arm rests, and power seat controls.

It’s not a bad looking ride, but I do see Tiburon in the side glass profile, and there’s a hint of Scion TC in the rear quarter panel. Hard to tell with concept drawings what the true proportions will turn out to be. I like the subtle roof line sag between the doors, the nose however should be a bit more aggressive.
