My first blown transmission at 6K in my 2006 Pontiac reminded me that all car manufacturers are prone to mechanical failures.

You’d be better off buying a Pontiac G6 or Chevy Malibu. Nissans tend to be full of mechanical and electrical gremlins and the overall quality is poor. Your first blown transmission or engine failure will remind you of it.

Autonutt – yes Altima is currently actually BETTER than the maxima…maybe people are just afraid of the quality with all those recalls recently.

the maxima is roomier, but for the saved money and the better looks and more power, I’d say the altima has once again overshadowed its “older brother”. all in all though, I’ve always liked maximas, just liked altimas more.

Why exactly is this news? The Maxima is not redesigned for 2008, it just received a major facelift in 2007 and there are few cosmetic changes for 2008. And why would anyone opt for the 4-year-old 255-hp Maxima when the slightly smaller, newer, cheaper Altima gets up to 270 hp out of the same engine?

I like the Maxima. The design aged a little quick, but all Nissans have a tendency to do that. Great car!

I drove a 2007 Nissan Maxima and thought the car was junk. The materials used were of such low quality. The outside of the car (the metal) felt like tin foil. The strange sunroof setup is annoying. I hated this car and even though it is a good deal financially, it is a nightmare to drive.

That’s a bit too much money when you could have a V8 Impala for the same price.

Also, the Impala drivers will be laughing at you broken down on the side of the road for the umpteenth time! Once you’ve gone through your third serious mechanical failure on this POS, then you’ll be begging for an Impy.

The Maxima was always an underrated car. Many people compared it to the accord/taurus/camry, when indeed, it was a better (and justifiably more expensive) car.

Then nissan came out with the altima, and the Maxima was better positioned.

But who needs a heated steering wheel?
