Nissan has set the ambitious goal of cutting the number of new car quality complaints in half worldwide within the next four years. To do this, the Japanese automaker is putting the responsibility for quality improvements in the hands of more than 5,000 additional people – a significant increase over the fewer than 300 “quality inspectors” the automaker has today.
According to Automotive News, Nissan will substantially increase the number of quality control classes it requires for engineers not only internally but with its key suppliers. Currently, Nissan has 250 engineers certified as quality inspectors – that number is expected to grow to 4,300. Nissan also has five engineers helping suppliers with quality issues – a number the automaker will increase to 1,000.
