Nissan has announced the recall of several 2011-12 model year vehicles for a potential oil filter defect. The recall covers the Infiniti FX, Infiniti M, Nissan Frontier, Nissan NV, Nissan Pathfinder and Nissan Xterra.
According to Nissan, the vehicles included in the recall may have left the factory with oil filter bolts that were manufactured to below specification strength. As a result, the oil filter bolt could break, resulting in an engine oil leak.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration warns that an oil leak could lead to a drop and oil pressure and eventually cause the engine to seize. If that occurs, the vehicle could stall, increasing the likelihood of a crash.
Nissan dealers will remedy the situation by replacing the bolts with units up to standards. The recall is scheduled to officially begin on January 19. In all the recall covers 14,718 vehicles.
No crashes or injuries have been linked to the recall.
