The Sentra is Nissan's entrant into the compact sedan market and, after a redesign in 2007, competes with the Honda Civic and the Toyota Corolla.
The Sentra was all-new for 2007 and continues on its familiar front-wheel drive platform. However, the base model now comes standard with a CVT (continuously variable transmission), with a six-speed manual being available on the 2.0 S model. In 2008, the base Sentra is no more, and Nissan has added multiple features to the other trim levels.
The base 2.0 model comes with power windows and door locks, while up-level models offer 16-inch wheels, power mirrors, ABS and XM Radio. For a smooth ride, rebound springs help manage motion while driving around curves, ripple control shocks help stabilize the ride, and vehicle speed sensitive steering gives the Sentra a solid feel. The Sentra is taller than the average compact, for better visibility and entry and exit.
Inside, there are rear cupholders large enough to hold a 32-ounce cup, 20 ounce bottle, and a partition in the trunk that forms 'hidden compartments' for more storage. The SL model has leather upholstery, a premium stereo, Bluetooth technology and keyless start.
New for 2008, the power windows in the front are one-touch up, not just down, grips over the doors fold flat, and the all trim levels have bright instruments. The 2.0 S has an improved interior, XM satellite radio, and moonroof package. A tire pressure monitoring system, side-impact airbags, and head restraints are standard. In 2008, antilock brakes became standard for the 2.0 S and the SL.
