Although yellow, long-wheelbase Crown Victorias will likely remain a familiar sight in New York City for years, the iconic taxis will soon be supplanted by the Nissan NV200, which won the city’s exclusive 10-year “Taxi of Tomorrow” contract.

While the NV200′s exterior has been a known quantity for some time, now Nissan has finally revealed what is by far the most important aspect of the van: its cabin, which the company says reflects the input of the hundreds of cab owners, drivers and passengers.

It appears to be a relatively comfortable space to spend time, with stretch-out legroom, sliding doors equipped with entry step and grab handles for easy ingress and egress and room enough to store the luggage of four passengers.

“Over the past century, New York City’s taxis have become known around the world for iconic exterior styling,†said Joe Castelli, vice president, Nissan Fleet & Commercial Vehicles. “Now, with the NV200 Taxi, Nissan is bringing iconic design inside the taxi, while improving the comfort and safety of passengers and drivers.”

Those interested in scoping out the upcoming taxi can do so at Nissan’s Taxi of Tomorrow Design Expo located in the pedestrian plaza across from the Flatiron building at Broadway and Fifth Avenue, which runs from Tuesday through Saturday of this week.
