yeah this car needs the 2.5 motor as the base engine. What’s it pumping out in the Sentra Spec-V? 200hp@180lbstrq? that would be an ideal base engine for this car. But its performance model or whatever it’ll be called (Spec-V too?) Will need like 250-300hp.

Because the FWD Sporty sub-compact cars like the Mazdaspeed 3, Dodge Caliber SRT-4, and Cobalt SS Turbocharged are all in that 260hp+ marque and would probably getting up there in terms of cheap, and affordable performance cars.

But even with ownwing one of the above mentioned, there’s no substitute for RWD and a little power. Which is what I’m aiming for my next ride.

Somehow, I am seeing NISSAN thinking the following,

“The Altima Coupe is the sporty little car that girls and women will go for. The Silvia (which will be a new name in the US and is otherwise unlikely to ship by that name), or 240SX, is that car that will appeal to the youth crowd for its accessibility.”

The Silvia, jonmiles (#8), would be a non-turbo for the sake of costs. If you want this car and a turbo, go find a good garage or do DIY. One of the biggest problems to the affordable sports car is that some jerks out there want a car that can smoke a CORVETTE ZR1 or a FERRARI ENZO, and have it cost under $30K. They keep being “up-equipped” until they have to be priced out of reach for those who keep saying “give us more for the same price or less”… and they still do not hold a candle to the “big dogs”. That is totally unfair to the company, especially if they want to stay in business.

Just be glad that these companies are looking at this concept at all never made actually making them, like NISSAN, MAZDA, SUBARU, and MITSUBISHI have.

Well brassmonkey seeing that Nissan is supposedly moving the Z upscale (as in price, and I think very stupid of them) by the time this comes out it may not soo much. If it came out right now, and with the base price of the Z still under 30k it probably would. You can almost get a loaded Altima Coupe for 30k if it’s loaded to the max, but I don’t see someone cross shopping a FWD Altima and a RWD two seater Z.

I think the Altima Coupe and this will but heads more however, but for someone like me it’d be an easy choice.

hell no dont use the 2.0 inline 4 that **** suck use the 2.5 from the altmia and the cars will fly. bewcause using the 2.0 in any other and it wont have enought power to move itself..

1. Make it a 3-door liftback. This would make it a better competitor to the upcoming Toyota/Subaru sportscar, the Pontiac Solstice Coupe, Mini Cooper, and Volvo C30.
2. Lose the 20″ wheels with rubber-band tires and the excessive wheel arches. These would make sense for a 400+ HP supercar, but in this class they just add unnecessary weight and drag.
3. Since this will probably be a 2+2 design, it will probably have a slightly longer wheelbase. I’d add 6″ between the door and the rear wheel arch

Just as long as it’s a 2+2 seater coupe, RWD, has an available engine that gives at least 250hp, looks decent and costs under 30k I’m sold.

I’m definitely liking the rear fender treatment on this and the 370Z. The front looks a little fussy and could do without the black insert behind the front wheel arch. It looks a little too Suzuki Sidekick/Vitara-ish.

I agree inspire, four coupes is a lot but I don’t believe they’re going to step on each other’s toes too much. Would you rather they be like Toyota where all that’s really offered is the secretary yawner Solara?

I think this will need to be called the 200SX, if its going to have a 2.0L. The coupe market is back (for now), and I think Nissan wants something at a lower price point, that gets good fuel economy. The last 240 sold well, and I think this will too.

As for where its built – most Americans don’t care where their cars are built anymore. Actually, most Americans don’t care where anything is made anymore, yet they should. It’s sad, really.

To the non-JDM fans, they are calling the 240SX a “Silvia” because that is the name of the 240SX in Japan when it was sold in the 80s-90s (same like the call the 350Z in the US a “Fairlady Z” in Japan).

I’m not sure where this would fit in Nissan’s product line-up. They have the GT-R (halo car), the upcoming 370Z (’affordable’ sports car), Altima coupe (FWD wannabe sporty car) … and now this? How many coupes does Nissan want to sell? I would think this Silvia would cannabalize sales of the Altima coupe if it was priced right and maybe reduce sales of the 370Z. All to compete with the Toyota / Subaru car?

Not sure if this is a good decision or not. I guess it all depends on the styling of the car as well as the price point. More selection (to the consumer) is a great thing … but if it doesn’t make money to the car manufacturer … not a smart thing.

Last thought … where is this car gonna be built? Built in Japan would mean higher cost; built in Mexico … lower perceived ‘quality’ (but probably result in a great sticker price).
