Nissan slashing SUV production

10/21/2008, 9:15 AM

By Andrew Ganz

Nissan will cut back Japanese production of two of its SUVs from November to March in response to dwindling sales in the United States. The cuts affect the Murano and the Rogue, both of which had been strong sellers for the automaker up until mid-2008 when gas prices increased and the economy slump began to hit individual buyers.

Nissan says that, thanks to poor August and September sales, in particular, overall sales figures for the Murano and Rogue are down 37 percent year-to-date.

Ikue Matsuura, a Nissan spokesperson, told the Associated Press that the automaker will also cut production of several undisclosed Infiniti models in Japan.

Good. At least people aren’t jumping back on the SUV bandwagon right away.

I like Nissan, but I’m not much of a fan of their softroaders.

I’m guessing the sales slump is due to the fear of massive depreciation once the Murano convertible debuts. Yuck!

Why not slash the design team … that front grill is as much a failure as any grill from Acura.
