Deanster, as I read the article the Evo sheds 200 lbs and adds 50HP over the other models for the extra $27k (on top of the V-Spec). The base model and V-Spec model get 480HP. V-Spec is “uplevel” from the base model which may mean $10k worth of nicer trim options & Nissan gadgets.

I like this car a lot, but $94k is a lot of cash for it. Would I buy this over a 911 Turbo? Absolutely. Would I buy it over a $70k Z06? Nope. Would I buy it over a 600hp $80k Viper? Nope.

I wish the Japanese would get over this “evo” moniker. It’s played out and corny already. It’s like the “Type-R” crap of the 90’s. PLAYED OUT.

Hope the Evo Spec will be released in NA, sometimes we get the short end of the stick on the “closest to race car” factory model. Sure $35k is a lot of money for 60hp, but exotic LW materials is becoming the name of the game and people will buy it.

When the last GT-R was around, the MSRP on that was ¥6,129,000… and during it’s production run, the ¥ to $US exchange rate averaged between 120:1 and 130:1. That means the last GT-R models (the Spec Nur models) cost just shy of $50,000 US… in Japan, back in ‘02. With the standard version of the new model starting at $57,000 US, and packing more technology and power than the outgoing top of the line model, I think the prices are reasonable. The EVO-Spec is to compete with Porsche’s 911 Turbo, so I don’t think under $100 grand is too big an asking price, considering the performance.

A very powerful car with a hell of a great price tag, that is unless there is a markup by the dealers. I think that if it was sold under the Infinity brand the price would sky rocket so I am glad they kept it where it has always belonged. Under the Nissan badge. =D

Same argument with the AMG CL compared with the Bentley Con GT. Same price with the CL being faster but people will still take the Bentley anyway. It’s always a balance between luxury and performance. Seriously though 57K is hella cheap for such a car.

Nissan is clearly capable of building serious performance cars… the BNR32, 33 , and 34 have already proved that. This is the next step nissan has taken to make this a true 911 turbo competitor. I can’t wait to see an official release with production pics and all specs. This car is very interensting… I can’t wait till mine’s, nismo, and JUN get their hands on this….

it won’t matter if the camaro and challenger have roughly the same amount of horsepower, because the gt-r will be faster. and gt-r buyers will still be able to admire the looks of either car in their rearview mirrors.

also, sik59rt’s point is well taken, the gt-r ends where the 911 begins. and the gt-r (i’d assume the evo model) has been testing against the 911 turbo (albeit a 996, i believe).

however, i do take issue with the warranty comment. to the best of my knowledge there’s no overriding set of rules that governs what does or does not void a warranty. that’s usually set by the manufacturer. that being said, i can’t imagine there not being some nismo parts available that won’t void the warranty.

also, the new gt-r is completely different from the old gt-r, so it’s unfair to assume it’s going to be as tough as the old ones.

This car will be bad ass!! However, I think it should be branded as Infinity. I think that if I spend $94K I would like it to come with a more prestigeous name. Hardcore or not, at that price it becomes a status car. Can you imagine going to the Nissan showroom and seeing this next to a Versa. That doesn’t even sound right in the same sentence.

wicked….mods do NOT void warrantys unless a malfunction directly relates to the add-on part. SEMA is a huge supporter of modifying cars w/ after market parts

The GT-R was always more popular than the Supra in Japan, Commodore. Especially with the Tuners. The GT-R’s status in Japan (and all other RHD markets, mind you) is legendary. Both the GT-R’s RB and Supra’s 2JZ motors had a reputation of being near indestructible though, with stock blocked versions seeing over 600hp with ease.

Commodore: I hate the fast and the furious. This car is for people with a litlle more upstairs. Not really a muscle-car competitor, more like one of the early-’90s Japanese performance cars.

In Japan, this will be the next Supra. I guarantee we will see a riced out version(s) of this car in the next Fast and Furious. For me, the upcoming Camaro and Challenger both look better and are just as powerful (and cost less). I do like the fact that Nissan is coming out with a car like this – it is something Toyonda should do also because there is a real lack of excitement in their lineups right now

On a serious note, I don’t think Nissan will void the warranty if sold. Like 1337 said, GT-R’s have always been bullet proof. And since the engine should be a derivative of the VR endurance racing engine (minus two cylinders, plus two turbos), I doubt reliability will be an issue.
