Nissan unveils Teana sedan

04/21/2008, 4:31 PM

By Drew Johnson

Nissan has officially taken the wraps off its Teana sedan at the 2008 Beijing Motor Show. The Teana was previewed by the Intima concept at the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show and is slated to hit the Chinese market later this summer.

Despite being a Chinese model, the Teana will share a similar platform with Nissans in other parts of the world — such as the Altima, Maxima and Murano.

Stylistically, the Teana shares many of the same design elements with the Intima concept car — such as the overall design of the front fascia and the kick-up at the bottom of the C-pillar — but ditches the show car’s suicide doors and LED headlights.

The front-wheel drive sedan will be powered by a 2.0L four-cylinder, a 2.5L four-cylinder and Nissan’s famed 3.5L V6, all mated to a CVT transmission. The Teana will also come in two trim-levels, base and up-level XV.

Nissan had a chance when the last generation MAxima came out, but their styling became mundane and predictable. The new G37 already looks dated, and the Altima refresh looks just like the last one. Nothing special here.

400horseSS, it’s not really a shame. GM had disregarded design for quite some time. All the while the other companies were peaking. Now GM’s back on track and the others are looking washed up.

johnnycanuck, Nissan does not have to know how to style sedan or anything else for that matter. Styling part can be done by Renault – the owner and decent styling house. In my opinion Altima, G35, E35 are very decent looking.

Good God, just what we need, another auto with horrible styling. It looks just like every other Hundai,Kia,Yota,Honda,Zuki,Datsun and all the other asian crap on the road. Enough is enough. The freakin Asians should try to build something that looks better than than an upside down bathtub on wheels. PASS!

This would make a perfect companion to the Altima and strong competition for the Azera and Avalon.. but I seriously doubt this will make it to the US.

The rear shot has Avalon written all over it. The taillights look like the new C-class Benz. It’s generic and mundane. Gross. **** off.

It’s very different from Intima that was shown few months back. this is either larger G or M Infinity and has no kink to it. Intima was very French, this is very Japanese (flat chested and flat assed).

Well I’m glad to see that Detroit isn’t the only ones who can botch a concept car on its way to production. The Intima concept is a beautiful car; this thing is a lumpy turd. Let’s hope it looks better in person than it does in the sales brochure.

Unlike you guys, we actually have the Teana here and it happens to be a better car than the Camry. I wouldn’t put it down just yet. No it wouldn’t make it to the US, but if it does it’s a nicer more luxurious alternative to the Altima. Which makes sense given that the Teana is what a full spec Altima should be with the asian market in mind. Cheaper than the Camry with Infiniti interior but horrendous depreciation value. The Teana was the replacement for the Cefiro which is known in the US as the Infiniti I30 in the early 00’s. So you can get an idea of what the car’s like.

^^ The Cefiro used to be a nicer alternative to the Camry and Accord but with the all-new Mazda 6 (test drove the Japanese version anyway), I’d get the 6 long before the Cefiro. But the Cefiro always has the more powerful engine.
