Nissan updates GT-R for European market

11/10/2009, 9:08 AM

By Andrew Ganz

Nissan has announced a number of changes to the European-market GT-R sports car. Although the changes are mainly minor, they do address some of the small complaints the current generation GT-R has had in Europe since it was introduced and they also help make it Euro 5 emissions compliant.

Underneath, Nissan says it has modified front spring and damper rates to improve the ride quality and sharpen handling. The rear suspension radius rod bushings are larger, as well, and the electronic braking distribution has been altered to provide better braking control in dry conditions.

To reduce rear axle binding at low speeds and when fluids are cold, Nissan has modified the torque distribution between the front and rear axles and the transmission has been changed to force a later downshift from 6th to 5th but more aggressive downshifts from 4th to 3rd and 3rd to 2nd. The front transmission mount has been stiffened, the automaker says, to reduce vibration.

Nissan has also altered the carbon fiber underfloor diffuser to provide additional cooling to the exhaust and transmission.

A handful of emissions modifications make the GT-R Euro 5 standard compliant.

Visually, the European GT-R gets a double clear coat paint on the bumpers. Inside, the gauges get a new gunmetal finish surrounding them and more insulation has been added to the rear seat area.

Sounds like good improvements. Too bad the US won’t get it. It looks like a ricer car anyway. I don’t care how many Gs it pulls, or how fast it is around a track: it’s still rice! That front end really bothers me. They went way extreme on it

This car is ok, it is too bad that there have been issues with warranties on them. I have heard of a few people that had the transmission go on them and had to pay for a replacement because they used their launch control on the car.

Feel bad for those who jumped on the early cars. Clearly not quiet ready for production, when launch control is eating trannies.

Especially when the tranny is approx $15,000 from what I have heard. That could be wrong.

Good job Nissan. The GT-R is the best all around super car on the market right now, in my opinion.

Oh great. Just when we got a break from hearing about this POS in the news it comes back FOR NOTHING. I’m surprised they haven’t claimed a sub 7 minute Nurburgring time yet.
Oh yeah, they are waiting for the Spec-V so they can go after Christian Bellof’s Porsche 962 lap time.

Too bad they can’t cure ugly, boring, and lack of involvement. Oh wait, they would get the ZR1.

And there is no “j!zz in your pants with every on ramp or hard corner.”
There is none of that when the car drives itself. No Self satisfaction. No fun. POS.

a car with a z06 spanking 0-60 time is boring huh? there’s no shortage of retarded monkeys on this site. i suppose you think that plastic bathtub vette is the epitome of style and unfuglyness. get a life. gtr owns the vette inside and out. and it does it with 2 less cylinders.
