Nissan’s first fuel-cell vehicle to be high-end sports/luxury model

Nissan already holds the record for the fastest Nurburgring lap by a fuel-cell vehicle, so it should come as no surprise that the Japanese automaker’s first hydrogen vehicle offering will likely be a sports car.
According to Autocar, if Nissan’s current hydrogen fuel-cell plans get the green light, the first product would likely be a sports or luxury model. The decision to produce such a vehicle is directly linked to the costs associated with a fuel-cell powertrain.
Nissan’s first fuel-cell vehicle will likely retail for about $100,000, meaning the automaker will need “a point of additional appeal besides a fuel cell,” Izuho Hirano, Nissan’s fuel cell laboratory manager, told Autocar. By hiding the additional cost of the fuel-cell behind the price tag of a high-end vehicle – which will probably wear an Infiniti badge – Nissan will be able to put hydrogen technology into production while simultaneously working to get the price down.
The decision of whether or not to produce a fuel-cell vehicle will be made early next year, with a proposed launch date of 2014.

Olds, did a Datsun rape you as a child or something? Or was it your uncle, who smoked and drove a 240Z? And instead of hating your uncle, you chose to hate Datsun?
You CAN polish a Datsun, but it still looks like a Datsun, only now it’s shiny.
And in Soviet Russia, Dastun polishes YOU!!

That mean you are not good enough to be a mechanic.

What’s up with all this Datsun crap you’ve been talking about, Olds307? I never really liked Datsun, but they made a pretty cool (rustbucket later on…) pick up and some great sports cars for the time. But, I’m not gonna argue, your definitely just a troll trying to emulate the success tripleonefive and others have made on here causing total chaos and destruction….
I wish all these future technology developers (hydrogen, fuel cell, etc..) would just take a step back for a moment, and give up something simple instead of going with ridiculously complex crap.
There are actually some pretty neat hydrogen systems out there atm, that inject about 10% hydrogen into your fuel system. It uses power generated from the alternator to turn water into hydrogen in the back of the vehicle, in a relatively small system. Since your alternators already generating plenty of extra power, it doesn’t sap fuel economy from the petrol/diesel engine that much, so you end up with something simple that aids fuel economy around 10-20%. Go look back at the Ronn Motors article, I had a link or two there about that sorta stuff. It’s not science fiction, it’s just this ridiculous, complicated crap simplified as far as possible so it can be used TODAY.

elviososa: it means that nissans are crap. the simplest things they make a pain in the ass. belts—– easiest thing to do on a GM, Ford, or even a HONDA—– on a simple 4 cylinder NISSAN its a PAIN in the ASS…. or half the time you go to take the distrib. cap off an older Sentra…. the screw heads just twist right off….. NO EXCUSE for that, the cars are CRAP.

Olds you may be correct about the simple things on a Nissan. How about the rear end and tranny’s blowing like a porn star on my old CTS-V and everyone elses for that matter? I would rather have the screw head break. Oh wait GM just told the customer that it was always their fault for driving the cts-v to hard so that they didnt have to fix them.

My dad had a ‘76 280Z, and he was broadsided in it back in 1990. The insurance company claimed it as “totaled”, and it sat in his garage for 8 years. In 1998, I took it an rebuilt it as a salvage vehicle. As soon as I gave it electricity and good gas, the thing started right up. Of course, I still had to repair the whole right side, which is really freakin’ hard on a unibody, but I did it. I also ripped out the interior and basically tried to restore it. In 2000, I got caught in a Vegas monsoon, and was stuck in a major flood zone, thanks to the fire department shutting the street down. The water was so high, my feet got all wet (it seeped through the floorboards). Finally, the fire department directed everyone through a different route. I was able to get out of there, but I had to drive over peoples’ front yards in order to keep from driving through flood water that was too high. Everyone followed me, and some guy was even videotaping and laughing as I went by. By the time I got the car back to my house, it was sputtering and knocking like crazy. I pulled into the driveway, and it died. The electrical system was shot, and I never got it working right again. But I bought my PT Cruiser after that, so I let my Z go.
However, someone bought it from me about six years later, and that guy is restoring it. He’s doing a much better job than I was doing, since he has a bit more time in the day to work on it. The thing looks great so far. I asked him what he had to do to get it running again, and he told me that he replaced the wiring harness and the voltage regulator, and then he gave it some good gas, and it fired right up. Not too bad, if you ask me.
Those old Datsuns were solid. For that matter, any of those old cars were solid. I love old cars. Everything went to $#¡† during the ’80s.
But I know what you’re talking about when it comes to repairs. After all, I restored that Z, and it was a pain in the @$$. I do my own maintenance on my Nissan minivan, and it’s a pain in the @$$. They have covers on everything, and reaching into the tight spots and getting enough leverage is a pain in the @$$. It’s not like an old Chevy truck where you can practically crawl into the engine compartment right next to the engine. But anymore, lots of cars have little room to play. The pulley system on a Nissan is a royal pain in the @$$. On a Ford or a Chevy, you just get a wrench for the tensioner, put it on and pull it back. Not on a Nissan. You have to loosen the tensioner with a wrench, and then you have to move it by turning a certain bolt that lifts it up. It takes an hour to remove a belt.

2014? Work a little harder Nissan- people are going to be snapping up all the plug-ins available as petrol prices go higher than the Al Burj Dubai, far before this product even reaches the showroom.

Does anybody else here remember the little old Datsun pick-ups? As long as they didn’t rust out in two to four years, they were great little zippy trucks. They pretty much lived through to the Nissan Hardbody until about 10 years back. Now they have these HUGE brutes that aren’t bad trucks… but aren’t nearly what they were.
But hey, the old Datsuns weighed less ten years later than they did when they were new. Hey, atleast they lost weight faster than most Americans right now. Why? Cause of all the rust problems they had. It was ridiculous. I’m surprised how many Z cars are still out there today.

Hey, aren’t all vehicles sold in the US since 1996 supposed to be OBDII compliant? Had a 2000 Crapfinder today, with the OBDII connector, and right next to it the old Nissan-2 connector. Guess which one worked, and which one was just for show!!!

Actually, they are not. These systems are obvious hoaxes. Like a lot of other frauds, they are just perpetual motion machines in a new box.
