Nissan has hit its target of one million electric car proponents in Europe 15 days ahead of schedule. All users had to do was click a Turn On button on the dedicated website, with Nissan imposing a 100-day limit to get one million clicks.

The point of the exercise is to educate people on electric vehicles, such as Nissan's own Leaf. The city with the most clicks will get 30 Quick Chargers installed in the community by Nissan, while the individual with the most referrals to the site will win a Leaf.

The campaign is running in France, Germany, the Netherlands, and the U.K. Nissan plans to donate 400 of its Quick Chargers in cities across Europe by the end of the year to speed up the development of an electric car charging infrastructure. The charger is optional but lets Leafs regain 80 percent of their battery's capacity in just 30 minutes.

At the time of publication, Dutch city Linshcoten was leading the numbers with 159,238.
