DrFill,

You don't have a clue as to how vehicle development works. 19mos may have passed between the concept version's debut and the production version, but you can bet your ass that the Sienna was already being developed 24 months before that. What, was Toyota waiting until they saw reaction of the concept to introduce a replacement for their mainstream MINIVAN? No, they already had the older-gen model in production, and had been working on a replacement for a couple of years before they released the concept. The Camaro's development (as well as the Solstice's and these GMDAT triplets) had no direct predecessor. Their programs were started from scratch, and began with concept models. Which is completely different.

No one's lead times are 19 months, unless all they're doing is rebadging.

1c3d0g, do you know how much more expensive diesel engines are to produce? They cost about twice the money to make, actually. And since the US government now has diesel tailpipe emissions standards that are about 50x more stringent than those in Europe, diesel engines are getting even more expensive to build relative to their petrol counterparts. And small cars have very, very small profit margins. Plus, with diesel prices outstripping petrol prices in the US, and almost no supply infrastructure for biodiesel, the demand for diesels is tiny.

Would you pay $22,000 for a subcompact like this with a diesel engine whose benefits are offset by the fact that the fuel costs more than gasoline? Because those are the market realities at present.

Why doesn't GM just make cars out of concrete, titanium, and NASA foam padding, make them get to 60 in 2 seconds, price them at $2.99 a pop, make them run forever, and make them run on fairy dust and children's wishes instead of fuel...and do it RIGHT NOW? What you're asking for, at this time, is about as ridiculous.

As usual GM doesn't listen to the public and goes its own way. Wasn't it just last year that GM held an online poll to find out which one of these tin cans the American public thought was the best? If memory serves me right the Beat came out as the popular choice............

The concepts look good - but they also should have been on the market this summer...

GM moves like an oil tanker - slowly. Plus changing course is a nightmare.

These concepts are 2 years old, and now won't make production for another 3 years.
Toyota Sienna went from concept to launch in 19 months.
Shouldn't a couple of these be flying off showroom floors THIS summer?
Time is money.
GM is running out of both.

Based on the apparent aerodynamics of the Groove and the Trax and also what appears to be a slightly higher curb weight (based on appearance alone due to structural height), I would surmise that the Beat would get slightly better mileage. However, I am also going to venture that the Groove and Trax also have a higher probability of fitting more than two people with at least some semblance of comfort. The way the Beat is cut, the headroom does not look adequate enough for taller drivers. When I look at cars, I like the looks of the Beat. However, actually purchase cars, I look for ones with enough headroom for me and my passengers. I perceive the Groove and Trax as having more interior room, and, thus, would be the ones in which I would be more interested.

In addition to the potential crash worthiness and U.S. regulations surrounding the Beat, perhaps the marketeers at GM decided that a large percentage of the population might not fit comfortably in the Beat??? Jay Leno is always commenting on how large we are getting in the U.S. Perhaps someone is listening?

When I voted, I voted for the Trax. I think that a tough-looking city car will help overcome buyer objections to owning "tin cans". The Beat's styling was okay, but I liked the Trax much better. If GM can bring both the Groove and Trax, they'll probably take those disaffected Scion customers who don't want to buy a 600-lb heavier xB the doesn't get the fuel economy the old one did.

Thats because the American buying public is still an uneducated market when compared to Europe and Asia, so there are still a handfull of Americans that want something that looks tough. But the more macho your vehicle looks and sounds, the more likely your a closet homo. Thankfully seeing less trucks and SUV's on American roads means there are less homo's.

I heard that to compete with Beat the meat, Ford is preparing Choke the Chicken model. Perhaps that was reason for US cancellation.

I personally think the Groove is the most conservative looking of the three. Clean simple lines... kinda mini-HHR-ish. Cars like Beat that look all boy-racer and swoopy don't attract a lot of mature responcible adults... and with the wide variety of people that are buying "B-cars" these days you'd better have a nice looking offering.

Bring us the Groove you GM loons.

As for bringing it in 2011, why bother. According to the Mayan calendar we'll all be dead by the end of 2012 so who cares. We all know the Mayans can't be wrong because they were indigenous, earthy people who never bathed so you just know they are freakin' smart & stuff.

It's smart to bring them over but oh... they are ugly. I don't think most Americans are going to welcome tiny milk delivery trcuks as personal transportation. A few have bought the scion xB but still....

Thank god. Style is very subjective and personal, but I think the black one has the most mass appeal, and has more family resemblance to other Chevys. I personally like the orange one best. I just can't like the Beat, but then again I'm not 12 either.

Was the aveo even that great? I think there heading the right way to meet americas demands(MPG) Fuel efficient vehicles. To be honest if i were looking for one of these small vehicles, i'd prob go with a mini. The price wouldn't be far enough off for me to even consider the chevy.

Probably Beat was not design to withstand CAFE requirements and mods are expensive. What's OK in China, not so here.
