I’m a bit skeptical about Yamaha building a durable engine. Everyone thinks that the engine being a Yamaha is a good thing – I think it’s a negative. Most people aren’t aware of this, but there was a serious design flaw with the original Yamaha SHO V-6 engine with the cam sprockets failing causing complete engine failure. A Yamaha with forced induction sounds like a recipe for grenading engines. Hopefully Noble will do their own forging and compression ratio work on these engines rather than just bolting turbos on the regular Yamaha engine.

Duratec 3.0 V6 was from a Mondeo (ST220 used this in particular) and did perform well, but there will always be a more suitable engine about… Volvo’s is Yamaha? Nice, I didn’t know that… Hmm, should be entertaining to watch – good power to weight and 30% increase in stiffness should see it hit the track well!

if the 3.0 V6 had a top end of 185 was it, this should easily break 200.

The best performing cars in this catagory of production/kit car are by far either Nobles, Ultimas or the line of Superformance vehicles. But when it comes to practicality and comfort none of the other can touch Noble, great cars for a great price.

Yeah Noble’s are crazy fast. Personally I’d rather spend about half the $$ and get myself a Factory Five GTM mid engine Supercar, equip it with an LS7 and and throw some TT’s on that.

I only really took notice of two things in the above story: 650hp and 1100kg. From what I’ve seen and read about these cars, they aren’t that much to look at, but man do they haul ass. This one should be even better.

yamaha, ford and volvo say that the 4.4 is not related to the sho 3.4 v8. i think they’re as related as the RS and gallardo’s V10. and… the duratec v6 has something to do with the sho v6?

Very nice. The 3.0 liter V-6 seemed of small displacement and too few cylinders, although from what I’ve read it performs great. I would understand that the V-8 Volvo is a great engine- I’m looking forward to seeing how this performs.

hmmm… aside from the actual outsourcing of the motor, I wonder if Volvo can use this to its benefit from a marketing perspective.

Yes, SwerveEarly, it is a modified version of the 3.4 V8 that was used in the old Taurus SHO, I am suprised someone besides me knew that!
