Despite rising fuel prices here, BMW sees the U.S. as the biggest market for its X6 crossover. The recently-announced X6 will be built at BMW’s Spartanburg, SC assembly plant, with 40,000 units rolling out in its first year of production. The model’s second biggest markets, Germany and the U.K., will account for 10 percent of the vehicle’s sales.
The news comes from Friedrich Eichiner, BMW board member for corporate and brand development, in an Automotive News report.
“The U.S. is still the world’s biggest SUV market. This is why we are confident the X6 will be a success,” he said.
A hybrid version of the X6 will be powered by a 407 horsepower 4.4 liter V8 combined with an electric motor and promises to deliver 20 percent better fuel economy than the equivalent twin-turbo, 400hp, gas-powered car.
The same report revealed BMW plans to bring an X5 diesel to the U.S. later this year to gauge market potential, which could lead to a diesel X6 sold here. Europeans will have two diesel engine options.
The X6 will go on sale in the U.S. at the end of May, and will start at $52,500.

Need more oil for GM
$52,500 initial cost. Try 4 times that once the repair bills add up. Then around 50 thousand miles it’ll be ready for the scrap yard like all these German piles of ****. A Cadillac SRX will run circles around this POS and look WAY better doing it.

Guess I was wrong about hybrids always being slow and underpowered. I’d take an X6 with one of those.

Tripleonefive, Need more oil is exactly like you only he favors GM and you favor Honda/Toyota, so when you say he’s “at his worst” you are precisely, with almost every post, just as bad.

This will be BMW’s R-Class…but, I always liked the R-Class (I like wagons, but not SUV’s), and I kinda like this too. Hopefully, they will not sell, and BMW will have to put a 10k incentive on them so I might be able to afford it…

Need more oil makes bogus claims like the Aztec being reliable or some other nonsense I make factual claims based on a cars resale reliability and sales
Like I said go look up an accord and its comparable American competition (if you can call it either ) and see which car is worth more sells more and has a higher reliability rating
Its easy to just compare me but you are ignoring the facts that Honda and Toyota are kicking GM Ford and Chryslers American asses and the BIG 3 have been beaten by smaller companies
Come back with something substantial and then you can be taken somewhat seriously

In real life it looked to me even worse then in photo. It is much smaller then X5 and just very strange looking duck. It is a 4 seater. I reckon Chris Bangle will find his audience.

golf4me, the point of a wagon like the R-Class is that it can seat over 5 people. The X6 seats 4. This is such a stupid and pointless car.

Funny that BMW expects to sell 50% of its X6 production in the US, yet they refuse to send their 3- and 5-door 1-series models because “US buyers don’t buy hatchbacks”! The X6 is nothing more than an overgrown hatchback itself!
