German Tesla employees to get pay hike

Employees of Tesla's German division will receive a 30% pay hike, Reuters reports, thanks to bargaining by the Tesla Grohmann Automation GmbH Works Council. Tesla recently terminated hundreds of workers from its U.S. operations in what many called a cost-control measure.   http://reut.rs/2hNQJdc

Nissan's domestic inspection scandal spreads

Nissan announced earlier in October that it would recall more than one million cars sold in Japan due to the vehicles undergoing final quality inspections by uncertified technicians. Wednesday, the company announced that internal investigation had revealed that uncertified inspections continued to take place after the initial scandal broke, despite assurances to the contrary. An additional 3,800 vehicles inspected by uncertified inspectors since September 20 will be recalled as a result, Reuters reports.   http://reut.rs/2hOtLCS

Next MINI Hardtop will have shorter overhang

MINI design chief Oliver Heilmer has given his team a clear mission as they begin working on the next-generation Hardtop: reduce the front overhang. Designers have plenty of time to figure out a solution because the hatchback won't get replaced until 2021 at the earliest.

Nissan prices 2018 Rogue

Nissan has released pricing information for the 2018 Rogue. The crossover starts at $24,680 for an S model with front-wheel drive; the range-topping SL with all-wheel drive commands $32,410. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard on every trim level, while Nissan's new ProPilot Assist technology is bundled into the Platinum Package offered on SL trims.

MINI could add more body styles

MINI could expand its lineup, one of the company's top officials has announced. Executives are currently looking at potential areas of expansion beyond the four core models the company currently sells, though more specific details haven't been made public yet. "I'm not saying it's wrong, but it's good to ask if it's going to last," said design chief Oliver Heilmer when asked about the company's current lineup.

Long-wheelbase Jaguar XE headed for China

Jaguar will build a long-wheelbase XE for the Chinese market. The model will compete against similarly-stretched offerings built by BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Audi. Sales outside of the China aren't planned for the time being.

Polestar details 1

Polestar's press release detailing the brand-new 1 coupe lacked specific technical details. British magazine Autocar has learned the 600-horsepower plug-in hybrid powertrain consists of two electric motors rated at 215 hp combined and a turbocharged, supercharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that generates 377 hp. The motors are mounted over the rear axle to spin the rear wheels; the four-cylinder is installed in the engine bay to power the front wheels.

Porsche introduces 718 Cayman, 718 Boxster GTS

Porsche is expanding the 718 Cayman and 718 Boxster lineup with GTS-badged variants. Both models get an upgraded turbocharged flat-four engine rated at 361 horsepower, a 15-horse improvement over the S-badged models. They also receive suspension tweaks and a handful of model-specific visual changes.
