The Obama administration’s task force, charged with successfully rebuilding the struggling United States automotive industry, is in Detroit today, where they’ll drive a prototype of the Chevrolet Volt . The task force will also meet with top General Motors, Chrysler and United Auto Workers officials, including UAW chief Ron Gettelfinger.
The administration didn’t announce details regarding the Detroit visit, though it’s likely that Volt seat time will occur at GM’s proving grounds or technical center – both in suburban Detroit. The group will also tour Chrysler’s Warren Truck Plant in Warren, Michigan, which assembles the Dodge Ram pickup – Chrysler’s best-selling model.
Both the Volt and the Ram are considered “must-succeed” vehicles for the two automakers, though each operates in an entirely different realm of the automotive market.
