United States president Barack Obama probably isn’t in the market for a new car, but he’ll be checking out the offerings later this week when he visits the Washington, D.C., auto show later this week.

The Detroit News reports that Obama is scheduled to visit the show at the Washington Convention Center tomorrow afternoon. Industry officials have indicated that his visit will last around 30 minutes.

The President is expected to use the show to tout the turnaround of all three of Detroit’s automakers, although he’ll get a special tour of the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu from General Motors global design chief Ed Welburn. It’s not clear what other automaker stands the President will see, but it’s safe to assume that Chrysler and Ford will both welcome Obama.

The auto show visit will cap a week of Obama’s especially heavy promotion of the American auto industry. Last week, a GM plant manager was on hand at the State of the Union.
