Senator and presidential hopeful Barack Obama traded his Chrysler 300C for a more eco-friendly Ford Escape hybrid, joining the ranks of democratic candidates with hybrids in their garages.
In May, Obama criticized U.S. automakers for not anticipating the effects of increasing oil prices. Shortly afterwards, it was revealed that he drove a 300C with a Hemi, according to The Detroit Free Press. Obama quickly traded his 300C for an Escape hybrid.
Other hybrid-owning candidates include John Edwards, Senators Christopher Dodd and Hillary Rodham Clinton, and Governors Mitt Romney and Bill Richardson.
Great. So another hypocrite bought a hybrid that will sit in his garage. Still lives in an enormous house(s), flies around in jumbo jets, and wastes energy with the best of them. Please, no more news about the hypocritical 'elite'.
I don't get this thing you americans have going for hybrids, diesel is much better, less consumption, less C02 emissions, no smoke, when ULSD is used, most modern engines can easily use a B20/B30 biodiesel mix, besides that, its torque makes it a much better option for SUV's/vans/pick-up trucks, in most european countries you only get diesel variants of those types of vehicles, because almost nobody buys gasoline powered ones.
Another eco-friendly wuss… if they'd let Arnold run atleast he'd show up to the debate in a Hummer.

At least the public is keeping them halfway honest. Hybrids and diesels won't solve the problem completely though. We need a renewable source, and until that is done (or allowed by the oil companies who just buy up any new discoveries), all of these alternatives are mute. I especially hate ethanol. How useless!

I would say buy a diesel, but then you wouldn't look American enough, since there are no diesels for American cars (for pickups, that's a different matter). Jeez, nobody is ever pleased. At least the man wants to fix our broken education and healthcare systems.

Why does every-stinkin'-meatball (not you gents) have to drive an SUV instead of a car? Sorry for the rant. Plus, a hybrid isn't all about mileage, or, isn't 100% about mileage. I get 42 mpg with my Saturn SL-1 daily driver, but I also pollute the air with exhaust much more than a hybrid does. No matter what anyone drives, they ALL use gas, mainly from the middle east, gas or oil (diesel). A diesel uses oil, albeit in smaller doses than a gas-powered vehicle, but still has people using oil / gas. Somewhere, someone has a better solution. I Know I know, I'm a wimp for driving a Saturn in general, let alone one that gets 42 mpg.

I can speak for quite a few people in this country, we're tired of hypocritical politicians that need to check a barometer each time they make a statement. The only people he impresses with his purchase of a hybrid is the media and the EXTREME left, which thankfully is a very small minority in this country. If anyone's decision on who to vote for comes down to which one own's a hybrid, we're in big trouble.
