and average them you get a 20.5% share, well above the break even point.

I am looking for some positive report outs by GM in a little over a week.

“General Motors Co. is outperforming the targets set in its earnings viability plan outlined in April, CEO Fritz Henderson said today.

Henderson declined to list the areas in which GM is outperforming but said the company would provide details in its third-quarter earnings report later this month.

Prior to filing for U.S. bankruptcy protection in June, GM presented a viability plan to the government. The plan assumed GM would have a 19.5 percent share in 2009, with that share stabilizing in the 18.4 to 18.9 percent range in subsequent years. That would come on the back of four core brands — Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick and GMC — rather than eight brands.

and while i don’t want you to be right about the mazda 3, johnny, i’d like to see a breakdown as to whether sales were down across the board (refuting the ugly mug theory a bit) or if the 3 specifically is down compared to other models…

GM. AN American Revoution

Now one month of sales really means little BUT they now have 3 months of increasing market share (after bankruptcy). The $4500 cash for clunkers was 2 months ago and the “bring ahead” theory issue seems to be over.

Not saying it is rosy for GM but would rather be up 4% for the month than down 30% like Chrysler and down ~4% like Toyota/Honda.

The winners will do very well as the weaker competitors crumble. Mitsubishi and Suzuki seem highly at risk. Chrysler needs some mojo soon but it could be a boon to Ford and GM.

Regarding the Camaro and its retro look I think back to the retro Thunderbird. Some people lined up to pay $10,000 over sticker. Less than one year out you could pick one up for $10,000 below sticker. I don’t expect the Camaro to be punished like the T-Bird but sales will level out and we’ll see ratios similar to the good ol’ days when both cars were vying with each other in the 80′s and 90′s.

Worst time for Chrysler right now.

Ram trucks not doing well as long as gas prices are high (almost $3.00/gal) and with construction industry still in the dumps.

Jeeps need to get better gas mileage. Needs a Pentastar (aka Phoenix) engine.

Toyotas problem is that they over capacitized themselves and have plants sitting and manpower getting paid for not working. Honda did not do that and is doing well.
