Or........you could just get the H4 and other "fuel efficient" trucks here and then you wouldn't have this problem. Hummer is currently trying to sell an Ford Explorer Sized SUV, a Chevy Suburban sized SUV, and a 11 foot long pickup truck. Maybe if you have a Wrangler-like vehicle you would be better off sales-wise. AND, you are not gonna get much money for a brand like Hummer right now so why sell it. It would be a big loss

Closing down 4 truck plants, tossing Hummer under the bus. GM ain't f****** around. Once again, just a sign of the times unfortunately. I think GM is too big in North America, it's way to competitive here. They probably will need to reevaluate their entire lineup sooner or later.

They should have kept this a limited production exotic brand. Instead of whoring it with cheap models. And what hummer stood for is not even produced anymore. I mean ppl dont like it when VW makes expensive cars (i do tho).

Probably a good move. They need to pare down their divisions, and Hummer is just not a good product to have when you've got to get to 35mpg in a few years. Then there's the PR thing someone already mentioned. Sure, go ahead and make some smaller diesel jeep-like vehicles, just give them to GMC or Chevy. Don't need Hummer for that, and Hummer couldn't survive on just that vehicle.

xyunya - Stop saying Rover. Tata owns LAND Rover. Rover is dead, or the next best thing to dead. They're a Chinese company, now called Roewe. It's like saying BMW owns Austin, because they own Mini.

carstuff, you forgot minor detail: automotive company, like any other company, is in the business of making money. If GM could make money off the Hummer this article would not appear. It is not for love it is all very much for the money and in the case of Lutz and putz for very large sums of money. Both co-CEO's would walk with penis around their neck, not only chickens, if such attire would be profitable.

GM does not want to sell Hummer. Even as a niche vehicle it is too profitable to just sell away unless they get a good buyer. So why would they sell it? Because it is like a dead chicken around their neck!
.
A Hummered GM looks like a gas guzzling company to all those folks worried about the environment. Even if they have a Volt and all their vehicles are competitive MPG wize with other OEM's they will still be considered evil and bad. Toyota sells large gas guzzling trucks yet because they have an overpriced Prius they are heroes.
.
So GM needs to get rid of Hummer for PR.

Dump the H2 and H3.

Build the H4, maybe an H5 too. Small turbocharged diesels, short wheelbases. They know what to do - they have Jeep as a template, it's not that hard conceptually.

Take this blight off our streets. Please. Keep producing the existing models for the military which is where they belong. For those who really do go off road, I hear there's a company called Jeep that makes one or two suitable vehicles.

A common sight in Southern California is teenage girls driving these behemoths while talking on their cell phones. Hummer -- a para-military vehicle driven on the same streets as passenger automobiles -- signifies the excessive spending of American consumers. I hope the brand goes down in flames.

Don't forget folks that it is not free to scrap the entire brand. GM would have to buy out the dealer network.

If GM is publicly talking about selling the brand, then there are putting out feelers for buyers right now. They want to sell it.

They should do more commercials with the kids in the soap box derby where the Hummer ignores the rules and all the obvious signs. This time the signs will have gas prices on them. In the end it will show the kid trying to trade in the Hummer, but nobodies buying.

A4, smell the roses. It is easier for GM to buy a good quality color copier and start copying dollars then resurrect that one to life.

Did you read about Cerberus dilemma with investor's uproar due to Chrysler purchase? Cerberus is bleeding cash on GMAC & Chrysler. And they will bleed for a while. Tata already has Rover, what Hummer will do for them that Rover & Jag wouldn't? To answer my question it could be Russians. Russian tycoon does own huge chunk of GM. Putin may like to own piece of Americana as his trophy.

lol @HRR. Well unfortunately it may be a move that GM will have to consider. I was at least hoping for GM to come out with the H4/HX that was confirmed for production. But selling GM probably at this stage in the game might not be a bad thing and can probably be the only brand that I could stand to GM see GM sell.

1. Who will buy it and why?-xyunya .. Umm I don't know but Cerberus bought Chrysler didn't they?? Maybe they will. Heck Maybe Tata might.

2. what the loss of such transaction?
3. proof of business blindness and luck of any business acumen (they bought the brand not so long ago)
