The United States House approved a so-called emergency measure to provide $2 billion to the Cash for Clunkers program after the first $1 billion was exhausted in just one week. Supported by President Barack Obama – see the video below – the House voted 316-109 in favor of the program.
As we reported earlier today, the funding will come from the Energy Department’s innovative energy projects loan budget, which was allocated in February as part of the $787 billion federal stimulus package.

The Senate will vote on the measure early next week, a spokesman for Majority Leader Harry Reid told the media.

The Cash for Clunkers program would continue to operate as before until the additional $2 billion runs out.
