An electric explosion that rocked General Motors' Fairfax, Kansas production facility earlier this morning has left one maintenance worker in critical condition. The explosion occurred at about 10:30am this morning.

According to reports from the scene, the unnamed employee was working on an electrical substation breaker box when the explosion occurred. The man suffered burns to his upper torso, reported the Kansas City Star.

To complicate matters, the incident happened on the roof of the building. Firefighters called in a truck company to help in the man's evacuation. Once on the ground, the worker was rushed to a local hospital where he is currently listed in critical condition.

It remains unknown if the Fairfax plant, which produces the Chevrolet Malibu and Buick LaCrosse, is still running as normal. Be sure to check back for any updates.

Although unrelated, the explosion marks the second such event at a GM facility within the last four month. In April a battery exploded at GM's Warren Tech Center, leaving one employee seriously injured.
