Support for domestic U.S. automakers is still strong in their home state of Michigan, according to a new poll by the Detroit Free Press and WDIV-TV. Only 15 percent of Michigan households own a vehicle made by a foreign automaker. The rest — 85 percent of Michigananders — own a vehicle made by one of the Big Three U.S. automakers. 45 percent of households owning a vehicle made by General Motors, while 39 percent own a vehicle made by Ford , and 22 percent own a Chrysler . The total numbers exceed 100 percent because some households own multiple vehicles. The numbers are impressive, but they fall short of Volkswagen ’s 99 percent market share in its home town of Wolfsburg, Germany. [Thanks to Brad for the tip].
