Less than 9 percent of all 3,932 Chevrolet dealers will be able to sell Chevy’s most expensive product, the Corvette ZR1. The dealers with the highest total overall and Corvette sales will get the flagship model.
The car will go on sale in August, with dealers getting an allocation of between two and four models. GM has not revealed how many of the $105,000 supercars it will build, but 1,000 units is expected to be the bare minimum, if just to satisfy the 338 dealers that will get the car to sell.
“Would it be fair to take a dealer who sells Corvettes for us all year, every year, and not give them one? There are always trade-offs,” Chevrolet spokesman Terry Rhadigan told Automotive News.
The ZR1′s hand-built, supercharged 6.2-liter V8 makes 638hp, making it the most powerful Corvette to ever roll out of the factory. According to the automaker’s claims, it annihilates quarter mile in just 11.3 seconds and sprints to 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds. With such lofty performance figures and the associated low production numbers, we expect stories to rill in soon about drastic price increases from dealers and re-sellers alike, such as the one for $350,000.
