If you thought the end of the Saturn brand would only affect car buyers in America, think again! The Opel Antara on the roads today has shared a body and interior with the Saturn Vue. Now that the Vue is going away, the Antara needs a new body double.
Judging from our spy photos, it appears GM will give Opel a version of the Chevy Captiva.
The new Opel grill is easy to see though the camouflage on this prototype, along with some impressive looking projector headlights. A chrome ringed, lower grill opening can also be seen.
Watch for this new Opel to go on sale in the first half of 2010.

So how will this affect American buyers? The Captiva isn’t sold in the US. and dumb-a$$ Buick decided to scrap the idea of using the Antara to make a Compact SUV for their line up (i.e. replacing the VUE). One of the best selling class of vehicles and they decided to scrap the idea. And they want to improve? Is GM like really that retarted that they don’t see what people are buying and what’s in demand??

I thought they were already building that? But u agree. How does this affect us? Gmail doesn’t give a Shiit about us so why should we care? I hope they seriously get screwed

Nope. In an earlier article on this website they said the Buick badged VUE was scrapped. Bob Lutz said “We feel the compact SUV isn’t what costumers want.” Yeah. Go tell that to the Japanese and the Europeans and even Ford and we’ll see if they take his advice.

*GTR: Good comment. If Lutz would actually back up what he said, then the GMC Terrain would have been killed and the Orlando should remain a concept. I am guessing that the Terrain was to far down the pipeline to stop it. So far I am not convinced that anyone at GM knows what they are doing. Although not with its falts, Fait seems to have a more concrete plan for the Chrysler Group redo. I wish GM all the luck in getting a solid game-plan.

This article doesn’t seem to make sense, if this is all about the Opel Antara why is the car photographed testing in the USA? Perhaps this is going to be sold in the US. It doesn’t make sense for any division except Buick. Besides isn’t Opel in the process of being sold, so why worry about new product for them?

Wish you guys would get it straight. GM is only selling a PORTION of Opel. They will no longer have controlling interest but Opel will still supply the basic platform Engineering for the midsize architecture. They will still be able to ship Opels to the US with domestic branding.
And the latest news is that Europe is jerking GM around again and may stop the sale to Magna. Reason they were pushing the sale was because Europe/unions thought a new owner would stop the closing of plants that GM was going to push for. Now that Magna is the buyer Magna announced even more cuts/closings. So GM may continue to own 100% of Opel with some government assistance.

85 Zingo, you are stretching your knowledge here. Yes Buick scrapped the idea of sticking Buick Fascias and badges on the what was to be the new Saturn Vue. It did NOT have the content/looks of a Buick and both the dealers and media told Buick they were wrong. Buick quickly dropped the idea. Smart move but too bad it took outsiders to see the light.
That being said I have seen NO info on Buick dropping the idea of having a compact CUV. The question is will it be based on the mid sized theta platform or the SRX theta/Epsilon platform. Perhaps it will be based on the compact Delta II. GM needs a smaller CUV than the thetas.
