Opel GTC (Gran Turismo Coupe) concept revealed

General Motors will exhibit the Opel Gran Turismo Coupe (GTC) concept at the Geneva Motor Show this week. Powered by a 300 horsepower turbocharged V6, the all-wheel-drive GTC is based on the next-generation Vectra’s platform.

Given Opel’s close ties to Saturn, it’s safe to assume the concept will be relevant to the American brand, too.

It’s not known hose closely the GTC reflects the new Vectra’s design direction. It’s also unclear if Opel plans to offer Vectra coupe. A two-door called the Opel Calibra was offered between 1989 and 1997, based directly on the Vectra.

Holy ****.

Looks great, my only question is, is it a proper RWD based AWD system? Or is it one of these transverse FWD systems with some power to the rear wheels when needed.

Whatever it is, it would help GM to get these things on the road asap.

One thing about that interior.. it definately doesn’t look all that concept-ish. Could definately be a production interior.

Nice looking car… both companies could stand more vehicles looking like this.

I dig that interior, especially the asymmetrical arm rest.
I don’t know about you, but those new pedestrian friendly noses are getting on my nerves.

Well, at least this design is *interesting*, compared to the same old, extremely BORING designs plaguing GM, especially their Buick/Pontiac divisions.

the pedestrian friendly noses are correctly described by renton. Long story short, regulatory BS to make cars safer for pedestrians when the car hits them. Mostly fronts that give-in and that have more space before the engine and that are flatter… The idea being that the pedestrian will suffer lesser injuries.

Wow, looks awesome. Reminiscent of the Bently GT (could the pedestrian legislation might have something to do with that), but the profile is sleeker. I like it, a 300hp turbo v6 and AWD sounds sweet too.

IMO they should keep the body but use the Zeta platform and have this be Saturns version of the Camaro. Keep it AWD too, just to differentiate it from the rest of the Zetas, and it will definitely be RWD based that way.

Bring it here, GM! Though it would be nice to get that 300hp naturally.

If that’s going to be what future Vectra’s look like, then count me in. This thing could be a Vectra VXR…
Of course, they’ll wipe out all the cool detailing, not to mention the V6 engine. This intense dullification happens to all concept cars. (Although the new Jag C XF claims to look very similar to the production version). Why can’t manufacturers do a futura edition of cars or something which will look very similar to the concepts which inspire them.

@Aston Martin: I agree, I really hope they don’t dullify this concept. Speaking of Jags, that XF concept is awesome too. Hopefully the production version is as close to the concept as the XK was.

It should look some like the G6 coupe, they’re both Epsilon.
.
And the Aura isn’t really an Opel Clone. It has Vectra design cues but it was an all new design for Saturn. The Vectra is on the short wheelbase Epsilon, the Aura on the long wheelbase.

I just wish GM would sell OPELS in America again, and quit sticking Saturn badges on them. Having the Opel line back in Buick dealerships could work, and bring people in those doors. I’d love a pure bred Opel again. But, it’ll never happen, they’ll just keep up the label game to make Saturn look like a profitable American company.

I love this car, and hope we see the fruits of this labor on our side of the pond. I just want it to have an official Blitz on the grille.

This will get a lot of Saturn fans for sure, but for the life of me, I can’t help but think two things.

1) This will end up as a Pontiac. Not a bad thing to replace the G6 with an AWD if not a RWD car.

2) A passing swipe at the Skyline GT-R. Not meant to really compete with it but still give folks who can’t foot the bill the shot Mitsubishi keeps passing up by not building a proper AWD Eclipse.

The car is cool, but the hood just doesn’t fit with the rest of the car. The integrated lights and scoops look far enough over the top not to make production. The rear looks like a G6 coupe. The profile looks something like an Audi mixed with an Acura. The interior is graceful and exciting. I like it, except the redness… A bit too “gimme”.

I’d love to see this car as a Saturn in a couple of years… or sooner.
