A report coming out of England indicates that General Motors-owned Opel is considering launching a 400-horsepower version of the Insignia OPC in about a year.

If the rumor is to be believed, the revamped Insignia OPC will retain the current model's turbocharged V6 but engineers will make several internal modifications to it in order to squeeze out every last ounce of power.

Like in the current Insignia, power will be sent to all four wheels via a six-speed manual transmission. Beefier brakes all around and a sport-tuned FlexRide suspension will both be part of the package in order to handle the extra grunt.

The entire Insignia lineup is due in for a redesign next year so more details about the hot-rodded OPC version will be available then.

Regardless of how many horses are under the hood, the Opel Insignia OPC will be sold as the Vauxhall Insignia VXR in the United Kindgom.

Riding on the same Epsilon II platform as the Buick Regal, the current Insignia OPC is powered by a 2.8-liter V6 engine that makes 325 horsepower and 320 lb-ft. of torque. It accelerates from zero to 62 mph in six seconds and goes on to a top speed that is electronically limited at 155 mph.
