Opel to debut new logo

To correspond with the brand’s move upscale, General Motors’ German arm — Opel — will be unveiling a new logo at this year’s London Motor Show. The new badge will debut on the all-new Opel Insignia. Opel’s sister brand, Vauxhall, will also debut a new logo at the London show.

While the new badge will keep the traditional Opel look, it is intended to better convey Opel’s new focus on design and style. “Capturing that combination of beautifully-sculpted shapes together with German precision is very much consistent with the overall design language and philosophy of our vehicles,” Mark Adams, GM Europe’s head of design, told Automotive News.

Opel is trying to revamp its image as its European sales continue to dwindle. Through the first four months of the year, Opel’s sales were down 8.2 percent.

Opel isn’t sold in the UK and the London Motor show is a very minor affair, so why launch it there?

ACtually that is the new logo, it says “opel” on the ring.

To LaCaLover

Opel IS sold in the UK under the name Vauxhall. Despite the fact that the car is essentially German, the Brits still treat is a home brand (as they do with Ford). And since the Vauxhall’s logo is about to change too, the London choice is pretty obvious.

On the other hand, based on the show I went to in 2006, the importance of the event equals zero, it’s basically a regional car exhibition. It took place in Excell in East London, and attracted less people than a boat show that took place a few months earlier. Still, it’s the biggest car event in the UK.

Reminds me of the trend way back when rappers would wear auto emblem bling. It resulted in a minor crime wave of stolen Mercedes three-pointed stars. I could see Vanilla Ice wearing this new Opel design.

Kitko, Opel the brand is not sold in the UK so why launch the logo there? I used to live in the UK so i do know that Vauxhalls and Opels are the same vehicles. Go teach someone elses grandmother to suck eggs. The London show sucks, not even Audi will be there. The LA show is way superior.

Here is hoping L.A. sinks into the ocean so LaCaLover can stop bragging about the “prestigious” L.A. car show, even though I prefer the NAIAS, Paris, Geneva and any other show that is not in California.
