Collector commissions one last Pagani Zonda

We think it\'s safe to say this is the last-ever Zonda, but money talks.

While Pagani stopped production of the Zonda about two years ago, a wealthy collector has convinced the Italian firm to build one final example.

The car is dubbed Zonda MD; MD are the middle initials of the customer who commissioned it, but Pagani has been asked not to reveal his or her identity. It features a carbon fiber body that's tinted in dark blue, a huge wing out back, and dark gray wheels. Careful observers will notice that the MD isn't fitted with the central fin that came standard on the regular Zonda.

Pictures taken on the assembly line show that the cabin gets dark blue carbon fiber trim, aluminum inserts, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, and seats upholstered in an elegant combination of beige leather and Alcantara.

Technical details haven't been published, but it's not too far-fetched to speculate that the MD uses a 6.0-liter V12 engine borrowed from the Mercedes-Benz parts bin. It could produce as much as 800 horsepower, according to Motor Authority, and it's bolted to a manual transmission.

Pagani hasn't revealed how much the one-off model cost. We think it's safe to say that the MD is the last-ever Zonda, especially considering Pagani is focusing the bulk of its resources on building the newer Huyra, but money talks.
