A leaky patent office has once again revealed Ferrari ’s future powertrain offerings. Early this week a patent office drawing revealed Ferrari’s all-wheel hybrid plans, and now comes a drawing outlining the Italian automaker’s turbocharged V8 plans.
According to a patent drawing unearthed by Autocar, Ferrari is planning to put a twin-turbocharged V8 into production. Although the filing describes the patent as “turbocharged internal combustion engine with V arrangement”, the drawing clearly shows the mill as an eight-pot. However, Ferrari is also reportedly developing a twin-turbo V6.
The latest patent leak along with the previous drawings show Ferrari is serious about cutting down emissions and improving fuel economy. Although the next-generation of Ferrari engines will likely be smaller than the powerplant currently employed, they won’t lose an ounce of power. That combined with lighter-weight materials will ensure the greenest Ferraris will also be among the fastest.
