Peugeot has announced that its EX1 concept car has just set the Nurburgring lap record for an electric vehicle. The Peugeot EX1 concept made its world debut at last year's Paris Motor Show.

According to the French automaker, the EX1 completed a lap of the Nurburgring's Nordschleife in 9 minutes, 1.338 seconds, capturing the record for an electrically-powered vehicle. The previous EV lap record was nearly a minute slower than the EX1's time.

The Nurburgring lap record is hardly the first record set by the EX1, with the EV holding a number of benchmarks in the FIA Category A - Group 8 - Class 2. Those records include the standing 1/8 mile, ¼ mile, ½ mile, 1 mile, 500 meter and 1,000 meter.

The concept version of the EX1 uses two electric motors good for a combined 340 horsepower but, unfortunately, Peugeot doesn't have any current plans for a production version of the Tesla-fighter.
